Had a peruse of the New UFB Plan topic.
I'm an existing Orcon UFB 30Mbps customer with the original black Orcon Genius. We've been a customer since UFB was available on the North Shore (2012?) VOIP experience has mostly been poor and our 'normal' phone access is a standing joke amongst friends and family to the point where they mostly txt or call mobile if they want to get hold of us. Black modem requires a reset about once a month.

So the question is, do we change to 100Mbps plan with a modem swap and brave the various issues people have faced or just change provider?

The problems you've had with your phone line don't sound normal to me.  Did you ever raise a support request to get this fixed?  Would you like to send me your username so I can have it looked into?

Upgrading to a faster UFB plan would see you get an NF4V which should be more reliable than the (now rather long in the tooth) black Genius modem.

Thanks for the reply. TBH the phone issues are so intermittent and usually fixed with a 'Did you try turning it off and on?' that I don't have the patience to pursue through the help desk. Oddly most of the time we would still have internet but no phone.

I'll call and see what the delivery time is on the new modem. Just don't want to have them do the change and then spend a week/s waiting for the modem to show up without access.

The upgrade isn't really a problem if you aren't in a hurry but as it hasn't been completed yet I can't offer you the whole story. So far it has been painless but is a ludicrous way of going about business.
My main reason for not changing providers was the lack of throttling Orcon does, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere.
