Have been with slingshot for a long while now

We have vdsl and get around 50 down 10 up so speeds arnt bad

We have the slingshot supplied modem which is the vb104w modem router and the Internet just stops working. I goto check the router and the Internet light is flashing on off red. This requires a restart of the modem to get it to start working again. The dsl light stays green so not losing connection there just the Internet light goes red

What is this problem it is becoming frustrating to say the least to keep dealing with this

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Let me know if you need more information from me

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

  • you have reset your modem and router
  • your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap
  • your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing
  • you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

  • Your ISP and plan
  • Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)
  • Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)
  • Your general location (or street)
  • If you are rural or urban
  • If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin
  • If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service
  • If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

Not at the moment but I might be able to get one. Do you think the modem could be on its way out.

What can you recommend to get for a modem that would be able to handle a lot of devices and be stable

Need fast wifi ac pref not afraid to spend some money to get this sorted

Is the modem supplied by your ISP?

Have you logged a fault with the ISP?

They may be willing to send you a new modem out once the standard fault-finding checks have been done.

(Disclaimer:  I know nothing of SS or CP service/products, just going on the process from other ISP's I have used, both replaced faulty modems for free)

Yup I would say its quite possibly the modem. If you have any friends on VDSL with the same internet provider, you could also test your modem at their place.

Time to find a new industry!

Just spent an hour, including waiting time, with slingshot. Exactly the same problem. My DSL light is steady, my internet light is steady green, I can ping the modem, but I have no connection with the internet. The only way to restore my internet connection is by resetting the modem. Last night I reset the modem five times! The service desk thinks I have a wireless problem. Not even using wireless!

My contract is three months old. Never had acceptable service. If I drop this contract, do they have cause to apply the penalty clause? Seeing they they have NEVER provided acceptable service. Has anyone else dropped a contract on the grounds that the ISP has failed to fulfill their part of the contractual agreement? I would be interested to know. Any advice with this would be most appreciated.

You have a contract so yes, a ETF would be applied.

if you want to get out of a contract and not pay a ETF you really should be contacting a lawyer for advice. The TDR may also be able to offer you some advice.

If your DSL stays on and your PPP drops out it sounds like you are getting allot of errors on your DSL line, some routers will drop PPP when it see's to many errors. Assuming this is correct if you move to another ISP you will experience the same issue as its the physical line that will be the cause again assuming I'm correct.

Maybe find the user "Slingshot" and send them a DM they should be able to help.
