I'm currently with Spark VDSL and I'm interested in joining 2degrees for the free fritzbox modem (by the way which model do they give out?) on 12 month contract deal, however it would help if actual VDSL customers on 2degrees could help with some tracert to some sites I visit often. Preferably users in the Auckland region.

The IPs I need tracert with:

124.150.157.30

202.248.110.184

103.4.114.233

Thanks.

I believe 2degrees are giving out the Fritzbox 7490 for new customers. Not 100% sure on that.

Thanks for doing the tracerts. Looks like 2degrees does not have direct routing to Japan.

It's a shame because I really wanted to switch to 2degrees and get the fritzbox, plus as you can see my second line in the tracert, there are lag random spikes from time to time and I have contacted Spark but they weren't able to fix it.

That's because it's not a problem. Just imagine for a moment that there was actually 2 seconds+ of latency on that first hope being introduced. How then, could you _POSSIBLY_ imagine that the hop after was a nice solid 24-25ms?

By all means consider another ISP to get a free router, but don't make up reasons that don't exist.

Cheers - N

True, bad example used because it happened just as I was doing the tracert, however, the lag spikes are very real. I run a ping -t www.google.com command in the background, and it's common to see a string of 1000-3000ms once in a while.

The main reason for switching ISP is to test whether the problem is limited to Spark, the free modem was just a bonus, why would I sign myself up for a new 12 month contract if my connection was stable?

I don't ever make up reasons that don't exist.

you just did?

how often is every once in a while?

Im pretty sure the second hop de-prioritises ICMP traffic, hence the high pings or time outs you may see

What VDSL DLM profile are you on?

Here is my spark VDSL pings in Auckland:
