I'm currently on (since early May 2015) the $49.95 Pay Monthly plan - 24 month term, plus paying my Galaxy S6 off over that 24 monthly term, and I have the $10/month TradeUp option (which is zero rated for the first year).

I see there is a current promo for the $69.95 plan at only $59.95 per month for 12 months, which I am very keen on as it includes Neon.

As of early May, if I do not cancel the Trade Up option, I will be eligible for a new phone.

Now the questions...

If I take up the TradeUp offer and get a new phone, will I stop being charged for the Galaxy S6 and will instead be charged a new monthly rate for whatever new phone I get? And will this also be interest free? OR do I have to pay the outstanding balance of what is owed on the Galaxy S6? (My clear understanding at the time of moving onto my existing plan with TradeUp was that I would hand back my S6, they would hand me an S7 and I would be paying a new interest free rate on the new phone - and that would be the only difference)

Is there any issue with me upgrading to the $69.95 Pay Monthly plan, and can I do this at any time or am I best waiting until early May? Will the term remain the same 24 months (expiring May 2017) or will it be a new term (12 months at $59.95, then 1 month at $69.95 OR 12 months at $59.95, then 12 months at $69.95)?

And as an existing customer, am I even eligible for this special pricing on the $69.95 Pay Monthly plan?

Will I loose any carry over data I have when I upgrade plans?

Will I be eligible for any other extras being offered with the new phone - at the moment I think it is an extra 6Gb of data. (last time I missed out on hundreds of dollars of free stuff by a week when I did this so I am very mindful of that)

Will 2degrees let you stand in store and do a phone-to-phone upgrade?

Hi Keewee01

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

OK, I'll go through your questions -

A1. If you take up Trade Me after 12 monthly payments of $10 you will be able to redeem your Trade Up, hand in your current S6 and upgrade to a new phone for a one off fee of $120. At that point your current MRO plan will be stopped and you take on a new 24 month MRO with the new phone. When you do you will also have the option of signing up to a new Trade Up so in a further 12 months time you can redeem it and get the latest smartphone, and so on.  We'll email you closer your eligibility date with instructions.

A2. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, just call us or PM us your number and 4 digit PIN. You will not lose any Carryover Data if you stay on Pay Monthly, only if you switch to Prepay. If you move to a lower plan that is not eligible with the handset you want you will have to pay off your remaining MRO balance.

If you move to a $69.95 or $89.95 Plan between 11/03/16 and 3/04/16 we'll discount the plan rental by $10 per month over 12 months, you'll then be charged the normal plan rental.

Q3. And as an existing customer, am I even eligible for this special pricing on the $69.95 Pay Monthly plan?

A3. Yes you are.

Q4. Will I loose any carry over data I have when I upgrade plans?

A4. As mentioned above you will not lose any Carryover Data if you stay on Pay Monthly, only if you switch to Prepay. If you move to a lower plan that is not eligible with the handset you want you will have to pay off your remaining MRO balance.

Q5. Will I be eligible for any other extras being offered with the new phone - at the moment I think it is an extra 6Gb of data. (last time I missed out on hundreds of dollars of free stuff by a week when I did this so I am very mindful of that)

A5. Yes you'll get 6GB of data (1GB per month over 6 months).

Q6. Will 2degrees let you stand in store and do a phone-to-phone upgrade?

A. Do you mean can you do this upgrade in store? Yes, you can.

Please pm us your # and 4 digit PIN if you have any specific queries on your account.

Thanks

^POB

Tradeup is such a bad idea, you might as well just be throwing your money in the loo.

I've never been able to understand the benefits either.

How I see it: you pay monthly payments on a new phone, so at 12 months you've paid half, at which point you upgrade to the new phone and start paying that off from scratch, but have nothing to show for the money you put towards the old one?? Add to that an extra monthly fee for the ability to throw your cash away?

I suppose let say you bought an S7 and  at the end of 12months you probably would've paid $300NZ off the total of $1199?

You then pay an extra $200 to trade in your S7 + the remaining balance ($800) of the phone to get a S8 and start paying off the new phone again

or you can sell the S7 on trademe for around $600.

I don't see trade up a bad idea?

Correct and don't forget the extra $10 a month (which was zero rated for the person above) and the "trade up fee" of $120.  This means an extra $240 over 12 months.

Better thing to do is a number port to a new telco and put the phone on 24 months payment, the old telco will send you a bill for outstanding amount of old phone, sell old phone and use that money to pay old telco.

Now you have a new phone, maybe a better plan from the new telco and still have your number.

Repeat every 12 months

Not quite - you hand the old phone back to them when you TradeUp so you don't have it to sell, 2Degrees do.

You would be paying a lot more than 300 off the s7, if its $50 a month then its $600 you have paid off + 240 in upgrade fees and tradeup fees (840 in total).

You then hand back your phone (only if no damage etc) to start it all over again.  So you have spent $840 to use a phone for a year that you don't even keep, that to me is not a good deal at all.

What I did with my S6 edge was I told them I want a S7.

I didn't do the trade up rather I sold my S6 edge on trademe and joined a new 24mnth contract plan again and paid off the remaining balance of $800 with 2 degrees.

The good thing about all this trade up is that when you leave your 24mnth plan there's no penalty fee. You only have to pay the balance of your phone and you are free to move on with life and join a new plan or provider.

What I want to ask 2degrees is that for the trade up. Is there a possibly to hand in the phone after you receive the new one?

Bit of a problem to wait for people that rely on their mobile for work.

But you still end up cheaper than buying a phone upright?

I would sell my S6 edge 2nd hand for $550-$600 if im lucky then I have to spend an extra $1199 for a new phone

if 2degrees takes my phone I pay the $840. I then pay a minimum deposit of $29 for a S8.

No because if you pay 1199 you have the phone afterwards to sell on trademe, you are free to pay your $840 and have no phone after a year.

Like I said above it's cheaper, to jump telco's

Salami we are not talking about buying a phone out-right

Lets break it down

Tradeup

You get a s6 edge last year with trade up. lets say the phone is $1200 which is $50 a month over 24 months (not including any deposits etc)

$50 + $10 tradeup fee = 60 a month

60 x 12 = $720 you have paid after 1 year

Now the s7 edge comes out and you want it, this phone is 1400 so lets break that down ($59) + 10 tradeup = (69)

So you have paid $720 + tradeup fee of $120 (total of $840) then you have to give them your s6 (which is still worth $600+ or so on trademe).  You then get to pay your $69 for another 12 months till you repeat it again

Now if you jump telco's this is how it looks

you get your s6 edge and pay your 50 x 12 = $600 over 12 months

You then want the s7 edge, so you move to spark on 24 months payment and the phone is $59, 2 degrees sends you a bill for the outstanding payments for the s6, the bill is $600 (as the price was 1200 - payments of 600 already made).

You put that on trademe, it sells for 600+ (make sure to cover your fees as well). you pay back 2 degrees, anything left over is a bonus.

You have saved $240 doing it by jumping telcos.

This works out a lot better if the device is an iphone as they hold their price better.

You can break the 24 month plan early and pay the remaining balance of the phone and sign up a new plan.

Thats what I did. I told 2degrees I want s7. No problem. Pay the remaining balance of the phone, you don't need to choose trade up. You keep the your s6 and you just pay the minimum deposit and the 24 month starts again.

Just to add, for a limited time last year (16.02.15 – 16.08.2015) we paid customer's Trade Up fee for 12 months if they signed up to the S6 on a $49 or above plan saving a further $120.

Trade Up is a great deal if you want the latest smartphone each year without the hassle of having to sell your current phone privately.

Cheers
