I'm currently on the 100/20 fibre plan on 2Degrees. I'm using a Fritz 7360 802.11n 2.5Ghz router.
The interface states my device is connected to the router at 130Mbps. However my when I do a speed test I'm maxing out at 42.92Mbps downstream speed. I also notice at the start of the speed test using the speedtest app, it starts at 89Mbps then quickly declines down to 39-43Mbps.

Is this normal for WiFi. I don't expect to get 90Mbps over wireless but oughtnt the speeds be higher than 42Mbps. Would an upgrade to the Fritz 7490 help?

It is normal. WiFi is not a replacement for Ethernet.

Use gigabit Ethernet for best performance.

If that's not possible, use 5ghz Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi speed is variable and is out of the ISPs control.

why is this in the 2D forum?

~42mbps is about the max speed for 65 or 72mbps wifi.

Okay so things seem to be different now. Not sure why happened. But speeds are much improved over WiFi
