All, I've had a nightmare of a time getting my Limitless LED lights to work consistently since I've moved to 2 degrees for broadband (ADSL).

The problem I'm having is the Fritzbox seems to drop packets, local network pings time out (>90% loss) and network broadcasts fail.

I've pretty much tried to turn every "feature" off on the Fritzbox but I still get inconsistent behaviour. I've tried two Limitless LED wifi bridges and both behave the same way. Only when I take the Fritzbox out of the equation do the Limitless LED wifi bridges work correctly.

It seems a pity as I really like the Fritzbox but I'm looking at replacing it.

Anyway, question; can I use another ADSL modem on 2 degrees? If so, any suggestions?

have you considered that the Fritzbox maybe faulty. You could ask 2degrees to test it .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

@vexxxboy it hadn't occurred to me, I'll check this out with 2 degrees. In my Googling I have found the Fritzbox is pretty conservative about security and I believe there is some kind of internal firewall that cant be disabled - I believe this is my issue.

BTW I have no "internet" problems (well apart from being back on ADSL after years on Fibre, LOL) its just local network problems.

I have the same system, and I find the Wifi on those bridges is ... let's just say it's basic. I've found that mine won't connect to several devices I've tried. It may or may not be a coincidence that all the ones they won't talk to have 802.11n. My Mikrotik complains about unicast key timeouts if I try to connect them to it.

Currently, to get mine to connect to my network I have dragged an ancient D-Link (b/g) router out of retirement in the garage simply to use as an access point that only the Wifi bridges connect to in WEP mode. WEP is a security risk; it's an acceptable one to me as my nearest neighbour is about 100m away from here, so if you want to hack my WEP access point I'll probably notice you sitting in my driveway. You may or may not make the same decision.

In summary: it's not the Fritzbox that's the problem, it's the crap wifi bridges.

On a somewhat related note, if you want, I can send you some Python code that you can use to control the lights from your computer once you do get the bridges working again.

The odd thing is that previous to this the I never had any issues (they ran for 2 years solid without any issue). I'm using the same Dlink WiFi router as I always was - except it is in "Access Point" mode and not router mode. At our previous place it was plugged into the Orcon router (so had two DNS/DHCP servers etc).

At the new place we have structure cabling which is wired into the patch panel and then the Fritzbox. The Dlink WiFi router is connected to one of the Ethernet ports within the house and is the only Wifi Access Point (the Fritzbox has its WAN turned off).

I tried using the Fritzbox wireless but its the same issue which is why I think its the Fritzbox itself and not the Dlink router.

If I introduce another WiFi router and connect the WiFi bridges through that router its absolutely fine and I get 100% success with pings etc.

To add, something I haven't tried is reverting the Dlink back to router mode. This will probably sort it but then the wired devices wont see the wireless devices.
