hi folks,


Delighted to receive my new white VDSL router and have VDSL installed so that my internet is WAY faster than it was.....but I have had real trouble on the telephone side of life.  Orcon assure me that I have a phone line provisioned and I can buy a high street retailer telephone of my choice and just plug it in, no need for any analogue to digital conversion filters or kits. However we bought a Panasonic KX-TGB212 cordless phone and first off it did not have the right connector for the back of the router. So then we bought the correct phone jack connector so it could plug in...and still nothing. The Orcon tech help people insisted it should just work...but if the handset is not VOIP or SIPS enabled then I don't see how if there is no conversion happening in the router. Does anyone have the same problem? how did you get round it?

The converson is done inside the router - you just need an ordinary phone


info straight from the Orcon help pages




  • Ensure that your phone is connected to the Telephone 1 port on the Genius White . Ensure this is connected directly into this port (No filters, not running through any internal house wiring.)
  • Test a different handset/phone. Try a different cable.
  • If the ‘Telephone1’ light is not showing on the modem, please remove your phone from the aforementioned port, and perform a factory reset on your connection. This will reset the modem settings to default, including your wireless network and any port forwarding you might have set up.

If that still dosent work call Orcon suport

from memory the correct cable for your phone should have come in the box...

You should have had a correct cable.


What are you plugging the phone into and more importantly is the line 1 light on? If the line 1 light is on you've got things plugged in incorrectly.
