I'm on the Orcon 30/10 plan. I haven't upgraded to 100/10 as a) have to deal with the call center and b) heard horror stories. c) heard there is a  12 month contract

Today I get a txt message that my plan was upgraded.  Online it's showing I'm still 30/10. So I'm a bit confused, especially as I haven't requested a plan change, so I called Orcon.   The person I dealt with said my plan has not been upgraded and disregard the text message.  Has anyone else received similar messages?

But he said I could upgrade to 100/20 and it would cost me about the same as my 30/10, with my current voice addons, etc , and with no contract, and  just $9.95 to cover shipping of the new modem.

Can't complain at that :)

since a) and c) went surprisingly pleasant - let's hope b) is the same.

It all sounds like a very cunning gorilla sales tactic by Orcon  smile

Hi there,

It sounds like the chap you spoke with has got this covered. Sorry for any confusion re: the text!

Cheers,

Cam

Weird - I also received an unexpected upgrade text message, but it seems that I have actually been upgraded.

Initially it did not seem like I had as speedtest.net and my account on line showed the same old 30/10 details, but once I reset the modem and ONT, speedtest.net showed 105Mbit down and about 19Mbit up.

Just rechecked account details now and it has been updated to show "Unlimited Genius Fibre 100Mbps".

To be honest I am not impressed with the real world speeds. It may be coincidence (and I'd like to hear if others have the similar experiences) but the only thing that seems faster is the speed test. Torrents (Linux distro's of course) have definitely slowed down, more so on the up stream side. I was trying Glasnost to see if my new plan had traffic shaping and although it seems to start OK, it keeps timing out with the error "The connection to the measurement server was lost" (yes I'm using a 1Gbit wired connection and yes the wireless is disabled and no there are no other devices using the internet).

I agree with the speeds. Torrents are definitely slower.
