So I bit the bullet and decided to sign up to the latest UFB deal from 2degrees Broadband - (2 years: $59pm for 1st year; $95 for 2nd year).

Since I need a home phone (+) and am a monthly on-account customer, it'll be $64/month (plus $15 for phone minus $10 on-account mobile customer discount).

Rang up 2D Broadband team and asked them to (please) make me a one-off-cost static IP deal on the UFB signup.. after much BLAH BLAH .. other ISPs (e.g. voyager.nz do it for a one-off static IP cost of $14.95).. BLAH BLAH... nope was the answer. Some spiel about the cost of provisioning etc etc.

Hello!!? I'm an on-account 2D mobile customer wanting to get 2D UFB + home phone + static IP, but even the support desk supervisor can't approve a one-off static IP deal. Am I asking for too much @2degreesCare ?

I'll sleep on it, return the Fitz!Box modem and cancel the Chorus UFB scope - scheduled to happen tomorrow. Vodafone is happy with keep me with a static IP at no additional monthly cost.

Hi zeus0r,

Typically we don't provide static IP addresses for free on a residential connection, pricing for these is $10/month.

I can certainly take a look and see if there is anything we can do as a once off, please message us your broadband customer number and 2D mobile number and we'll have a look in the morning.

Yes, yes you are. They're a business, they set prices for services offered and if you don't like it go with someone that offers what you want. I'm also a 2D on account customer with UFB, home phone and several years of contracts behind me: Give me Give me Give me.

My last internet provider switching happened 10 years ago - back to Vodafone (ihug then) (after a brief time with the monopolistic behemoth named Telecom NZ), so I'm likely to stick with 2D for "a while" if I do switch.

Give me Give me Give me - a better deal (while not asking for freebies). :-)

Some other providers provide static IPs for a one-off fixed (provisioning) cost. The provisioning doesn't happen every month! Nothing wrong with me asking 2D for a better deal on this.

Unfortunately, support desks like sticking to their scripts and those scripts tend to loop over and over again.

Goodbye Vodafone - me love you long time (since mid-1990s). Unlimited 56kbps dialup connection with Tim Wood & Co.

It's great they'll do deals like that but I do wonder what the point is. For everyone who asks for a deal, some larger number of people will go somewhere else. If I'd been offered this, I would have switched to 2degrees. But I wasn't, I didn't even ask, I just went elsewhere.

As an aside, Orcon's retentions team in Jan 2015 were completely hopeless, they kept on telling me they could provide something at a price and I would say yes and then they'd call me back 15 minutes later to tell me that actually, they couldn't...
