Hi all,

Dinosaur 1 & 2 are getting UFB with slingshot.

If I recall the installation is done by WEL networks not Chorus ( please correct me if I am wrong )

Installations I have seen around their neighborhood look to be of very good quality that I can see.

Is anyone in the area able to tell me if they get their phone from the ONT or the router?

Are they still using Netcomm NF4V routers?

Has the phone been fed into the house wiring or just plug in a cordless into the ONT or Router?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

John

Hi John,

yes you are correct Ultra fast fiber aka WEL Networks owns  the UFB network in Hamilton. however the contractors doing the work are usually either broadspectrum or downer who are also contractors for chorus ....

AFAIK slingshot been part of M2/Vocus are using the NFV4's and your phone will be provided from that unfortunately they are not aloud do a back feed the phone to the other sockets as that would require them to disconnect you from the chorus network .... however easy done after they leave....

Thanks for that,

I thought slingshot was in the callplus stable?

I was hoping the installers would do the phone properly, it to save me having to do it but I can do it without issue, I did it my place years ago when I moved to VFX.

Mum is freaking out about it as next door was without their phone for a few days when they got cut over, I might send a cisco voip phone down and give her a 2talk number she can plug in and use if there is a problem.

Cheers

John

yeha the issue with not been able to do the phone side of things is that afaik only spark are the only ones paying for it and allowing the subcontractors to disconnect the customer from the copper network.

as for the cut-over issues they are normally ISP relegated and/or porting issues

That sounds like a permanent solution! You could even get the original phone number ported to the new 2talk service. Keep in mind you will probably be doing some of the support since 2talk really see themselves as more of a wholesale business with minimal end user support.

Time to find a new industry!

My parents got the UFB installed on Monday.

There was issues with blowing the fiber but they got there in the end.

The installer has disconnected the phone line and connected it to the Router which is fantastic as it saves me doing that.

The install of the UFB was very smooth however there was an issue with the phone which took slingshot 3 hours or so to resolve ( I feel sorry for slingshot have to deal with my very technology challenged parents )

Mum and Dad are very happy with their UFB.
