If you look on the 2degrees website you will now see that the $19 prepay pack has 1gb data.

Finally an upgrade from about 2012 when Telecom launched their $19 combo with 500mb of data!

Time for the others to match it

Good to see 2 degrees take the lead on offering this. I've been on 500mb since about 2012 (first with 2deg and now Spark because they're the ones who can get the most signal into the street I live in). Despite similar usage patterns I've noticed actual usage has crept up which I put down to applications getting more data angry so I've been getting awfully close to my limit.

Also remember Skinny, which uses the Spark network with a different pricing structure.

I pay $39 a month for a very similar package on Spark post-pay, same data, more minutes, which are virtually worthless these days. I like Spark, I like their coverage, I like their service, but essentially the same thing for half the price is compelling - especially since my mobile data usage is minimum.

I'm on their $19 pack and went to see if I get this upgrade, but find once you click that link you only see 500mb mentioned in the breakdown? (Not logged in, just browsing the site)

You can use your Carryover Minutes to call Voicemail and one minute will be deducted for each call you make.

They were giving longtime $19 pack customers 1GB anyway, so this is clearly a way to pull new customers in. Won't affect me, unless they start offering 1.5GB to long-term customers...

And every now and then they offer their unlimited plan for $30. You buy that for a month and keep your rollover mins and data. I'm on the $16 plan and have more minutes than I'll ever need and 4GB of data. My wife and kids each have 20 hours of calls and between 4-6GB of data, they are locked in for life.

Interesting. Is there any downside to prepay on Skinny compared with post-pay on Spark? I always thought of prepay as for people who couldn't get a plan for some reason, and skinny a budget option for students.

Absolutely none that I can see. I have an auto top up on my CC for once the balance gets below a certain amount and that's it. Just as good as postpaid if you ask me. Barely any management required at all for our four accounts.

afaik anyone who buys the combo from 4th July through 4th Sept will be moved up to the 9+ combo reward threshhold which means an extra 500MB every month from thereon in, so long as you keep renewing. That probably means you won't receive another extra 500MB for bonus combo rewards, as that's the scheme being used, and I don't believe students get their bonus 500MB on top either. 1GB cap out seems to be the rule
