Would one of the super 2 degrees members mind checking my address for VDSL?

The Chorus site says yes

The 2 degrees site says yes (so do the other ISPs)

The 2 degrees help desk says NO - he said the Chorus site says I cant get it, WTF!

My ADSL SNR is pretty good as far as I can see (~11) so I suspect I can get it now that the rules have been relaxed.

If someone is able to help please PM me, I'd really appreciate a bit of help.

@Jase2985 I did as for that but he didn't even bother since he said the Chorus site (he was using) said I couldn't get it. Hence the confusion since the public Chorus site says I can.

SNR is a target - it's 12dB on Chorus equipment unless a non-standard profile is applied, and can be either 6 or 9dB on some ULL equipment.

If yours is 11dB, it means there is noise variation on the line that is different from when it last resynced (there is currently more noise than previously, because the noise margin is now lower than the 12dB it started at).

You need to look at the attenuation,  not noise margin.

Well... the Chorus map said I could get VDSL. Then Chorus said I couldn't. So I asked for a manual prequalification. And that said I could. And then Chorus said I couldn't. And then the CSR said they'd put the order in anyway. And then nothing happened for two weeks, so I rang back. And they said Chorus said I couldn't get VDSL. And I said, 'OK, no problem'. And then two days after that I was upgraded to VDSL.

Sorry just going by what I've read here. I don't know what the measures are.

We get pretty good ADSL (pretty much max out the line) so I thought I would've been a good candidate.

LOL @SaltyNZ I have no idea if you are being sarcastic, facetious or serious.

I realise I'm on a fringe area. I just want someone to run a prequalification. The CSR wasnt very helpful or willing to try.

No, I'm serious. That's exactly how it went down. I am also literally right on the border according to the coverage map. After the switch I went from ~12M/0.8M to ~19M/1.2M, and the line is stable. So, not exactly fibre, but a significant boost nonetheless.

OMG sounds like my line. How did you get them to do the pre-qual?

Hey tchart,

Can you please PM us your address, we'll have a look for you. If you can remember when it was you called and who you spoke with, can you message that to us as well, we are pretty keen to look in to that as well.

One thing to note is that Chorus's automated systems are based on approximate address data and estimations, so a positive address check for VDSL does not guarantee that the VDSL service will work if it is borderline (as there could be longer than expected copper pathways in the street that push the line out of workable range)

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB

sometime you really have to push, or even get it escalated to get it done but there is almost zero reason for them not to do one

Post your adsl line attenuation, Your SNR has no real value to the question at hand.

The extended reach on VDSL is still slightly up in the air, Shapemaps themselves haven't been updated and there are alot of odd edge cases.

hey all,

Looks like one of our newer agents was using the incorrect tool (there's so many of them for Chorus, it can happen), and as such was looking at some out of date (pre-998 bandplan) data.

We've run checks int he right system, and it's all good to go (and we've put a reminder out to the agents as well)

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB
