Two things

1)Currently

ADSL something

-Homephone

-free national calling

-unlimited cap thingie

Someone mentioned VDSL was available in our area, so i got on orcons Vdsl broadband checker thingie, and yep it is

So I went to find the price

Selected the homeline option (Free national calling is included Yay)

Selected unlimited

Price = $100 ( 5 cents more than i currently pay)

So i decided to modify my existing plan, only thing is when i try to do this national calling is a $10 add-on

so it costs $110.

Any ideas why this would be so

I did read the terms and conditions, and it appears it should be free, as it is the only "other charge" without a cost

2) How the heck do you work out how far you are from a cabinet

I think you are being hit by the same bug I was when upgrading to VDSL

Can anyone point me in the direction of a map showing cabinet locations for Putaruru, as the one map i have found list a single cabinet down reservoir street, yet when i view that same location in Google maps (Streetview) there is no sign of a cabinet and its just under 1.5 ks away from us, so VDSL wouldn't work would it?

There are public mas showing cabinet/exchange locations.

These are largely irrelevant anyway when determining whether VDSL2 is available since none of us have any idea how MPF's route. All that matters is that the Chorus coverage map and/or your ISP prequel show.

Exchange is by the BP station, and the only cabinet is on Reservoir street approx. 100m from Arapuni Street.

Attenuation and SNR are at not good levels?

Yep i had realised that, but 33 is still pretty high isn't it?

Just crawled about under the house, may have concussion, anyway the cable comes straight in from the street goes to the jackpoint the Genius Modem is plugged into and the rest of the phones in the house are connected through the phone output of the modem so they shouldn't have any effect on the line

Yes, unfortunately 33.5dB is high for VDSL.

I tried VDSL with 19dB and got poor results despite having good house wiring - went back to ADSL.
