I recently upgraded to Slingshot's UFB and have ran into a range of problems that are really enraging to me.

First off want to say that the connection is stable, fast (getting 75MBS over wireless) and for normal things is very good.

HOWEVER i play alot of online games as well as use teamspeak, mumble and discord for voice comms with them. Mumble works fine(most of the time), as does games like EVE Online the problems come when i want to use teamspeak/ Discord and play other online games. I have read that my router (Netcom NF4V) has firmware issues with Teamspeak so i moved to using discord everything seemed fine but its just the same. The connection quality degrades to the point where it drops 100% of the packets DC's just like teamspeak does. I also lag out when playing more needy games like H1Z1 where dropping packets is more serious.

I've switched channels on the WIFI and done the other basic stuff as well like port forwarding etc but the problem seems to come from the router itself not the wifi connection or whatever.

What else is there that i can do before i have to sit there an argue with a helpdesk guy only to be sent a new router that is worse.

P.S Before people ask, i am using TP-LINK TL-WN821N on n mode. I cannot use a cord as i'm a good 10m from the router, the wireless connection is full bars no issue there.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

you have reset your modem and router
your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap
your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing
you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

Your ISP and plan
Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)
Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)
Your general location (or street)
If you are rural or urban
If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin
If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service
If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Honestly? Use a cord. Powerline ethernet adapter, run a cable through the roof or under the floor, anything but wireless. Wireless is a guaranteed problematic experience for gaming and real time activities. As for the NF4V? Upgrade to the latest firmware, see if that helps.

The firmware needs to be the slingshot one does it not? and where would i get the files for it(slingshots firmware)

As for the wireless that's something else i'll dela with later but its not the issue from my view, its stable and is fast just can't use VOIP software or play games which i could do before on ADSL using the same PC.

Well we need to eliminate something that could be an issue. Have you tried another computer? Another router? You gotta change things out to see what fixes it, and cabling your computer seems like a simpler test than other options.

I ran off to Heavy Norman and got a Powerline Adaptor so i'm trying to get that working and see if it changes anything, it prob wont but meh now i have a line connection if it works

Powerline adapters have nothing to do with any brand of router - it's not possible for one to be "incompatible" with a router. If it doesn't work, you don't have it configured correctly.

Yeah i got it working as stated above i couldn't connect between my room and the lounge where the Router is located. I used my old laptop to try it out in there and it worked great, however still having problems with it dropping TS and games even when wired. Going to return these adapters and just get a 20m cable.

Using WiFi for gaming is crazy anyway. Ethernet is always far superior.

i had similar issues, whereas i never had these problems with ADSL with Slingshot, and i found out why:

it is indeed the Wireless from my NF4V NetComm router, and frankly it's bad - which is a disappointment since the NB604N was wireless superior.

the NF4V wireless is very unstable, even though your signal may appear good and local sites are fast.

FIX: use the old NB604N as an access point (obviously not suitable for a full 100mbs fibre as the wireless N will not be fast enough, about 60mbs max with a good adaptor)

- just remove any configurations from the menu in the NB604N and set a fixed i.p address, (say 192.168.1.234) then turn off DHCP - setup your wireless connection, get a cable and your ready.

- go to the WAN service in NF4V and edit - then tick "Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports" save. Disable your NF4V wireless.

- plug in the NB604N into port 1, turn on.

- in a few minutes your away gaming at no difference to your lan cable (fully tested) - all network analysers say my 15 meter distance signal is "perfect" at 48-50 RSSI.

amazing what a couple of external antennas will do to wireless performance

Those NF4V routers aren't that crash hot to be honest and you should ditch it.

Orcon put out a firmware fix for them a while back that helped with improving stability a little, but if you're in a room on TeamSpeak with, say 5 other people, then you're likely going to disconnect and reconnect semi regularly. My brother had one, and it got to the point when the router was under load that he'd drop off and come back every 30 seconds, became a bit of a joke, so we gave them a DrayTek DV130 and the problem went away instantly.

Can't say I'm sure if it ever got fully fixed on the firmware level, it's one of the joys of an ISP-supplied router, they're never the greatest.

For what it's worth, it's highly unlikely to be a WiFi-specific issue, and more that the router is just "losing the plot" due to the load increase from the way TeamSpeak behaves, so powerline adapters likely won't fix this.

(EDIT: They were on VDSL2, so the DV130 won't work in your instance being on UFB, but there are much much better routers out there available, but accessibility depends on if Callplus require WAN VLAN to be set or not for your connection)

when you are 30 meters away its not always viable, but it is the only way to TRULY test your performance, it cost me $25 at PBTech to find that the wireless performance is bad.

so due to stress lol, yeh it is worth it :)

just get an extender or an old router with at least 2 aerials external and use InsiderHome to check your performance (its free)

it will recommend what channels to use, and stick to 20mhz dual N signal unless your totally in an uncrowded wireless area (or performance will decrease @ 40mhz)

also purchasing the ugly but AMAZING performance (cheap if your on a budget):

i get 100% signal quality from 60% by making these changes, and @ 60mbs true speed, its "almost" as good as ethernet quality since i don't stream media from wireless, currently only for internet and gaming.
