The CEO of 2degrees, Stewart Sherriff has published a full page spread in today's Dominion Post saying that, if you're a Spark or Vodafone customer unhappy about the disappearance of your monthly (unused) mobile data, we invite you to switch to a 2degrees Pay Monthly plan and keep your unused data each month, for up to a year.
I have a Vodafone monthly mobile data plan and the unused minutes and mobile data are accumulated for up to a year. And Spark's "Skinny" company does the same.
So, is 2degrees unaware of these plans offered by Vodafone and Skinny?
Stewart's letter is a bit emotive when it says:
"Every month you buy data for your mobile. And you probably use a fair amount of it. But what happens to your remaining data? Those little megabytes and the occasional gigabyte that you didn't use?"
"You'd think, given you bought and paid for it, that it all belongs to you. That it's your to keep. But clearly not all mobile providers agree. Because every month, all over the country, unused data is disappearing from Kiwi's monthly plans."
"Imagine if supermarkets did the same thing. You buy your weekly groceries and stock your fridge. Then, if you haven't finished all the food that week, they come around to yours and take back whatever's left."
"What if the petrol in your car was siphoned out if you hadn't used it all up in a week?"
But don't you think that carry-over data shouldn't have a 12-month limit either if we are to take Sherriff's comments seriously?
