Does anyone have hard information on when Flip will offer fibre connections? Last time I asked the reply was something like 'we plan it to be later this year' (That's 2016.)

I live in a provincial town...

the thing is will they do a my republic approach, of going country wide, and having poor handover connections during peak hours or do a bigpipe approach and go city by and have proper handovers that can handle peak loads.

if its the latter i dont think you would see it in your provincial location for a long time.

Hi guys,

No hard date to report I am afraid, but if fibre's available at your place now, we are more than happy to set you up on one of our sister companies.

PM me if you like and I'll see what we can do!

Cheers

They are part of Vocus, which owns Slingshot and Orcon. Presumably they would piggyback of Vocus's footprint. Perhaps the delay is to do with merging systems after their various mergers

flip has had on their website for 3 years that UFB is coming soon..I've always felt that they are just waiting for UFB to become more established and when more people have their free modems from the other providers they will come in with a cheap deal then..I was with with flip for ages and really like them but really wanted to have UFB so went elsewhere..I will return to them when they have UFB if they can offer the same sort of deal they have with ADSL now..Its pretty unlikely they don't have the ability to have it now

bigpipe is owned by spark digital ventures but are not piggybacking off their interconnects...

it may not be the way they do things

Other providers, such as Slingshot will cost me significantly more than Flip.

I doubt if the Government will rock the free connection boat as next year is an election year?

From an industry perspective I fail to see any reason why they would bother launching UFB as there really is no point.

Flip are a low cost offering that caters for a niche spot in the market like all of the Vocus brands. Flip's cost benefits came from being able to utilise existing UCLL kit on copper and offer a cheap product for entry price conscious customers. With no UCLL on UFB and margins already wafer thin in the residential market IMHO there isn't really is no point in the brand existing in the UFB world when customers could already be serviced by existing Vocus brands at very cheap price points.

So is that an official on the record statement that Vocus will be planning to enter that market? smile
