TrueNet needs 20 DSL volunteers on 2Degrees to be panellists on our testing and reporting project. (a mix of ADSL & VDSL for 2Degrees)

We have a new contract with the Commerce Commission to continue testing and reporting. There are some changes though, and as a result we now need more 2Degrees ADSL and VDSL panelists. It would be great if your area is not going to get fibre for a couple of years to help us to keep our numbers up. We have had so many panelists migrate to fibre that we actually have enough 2degrees fibre testers already.

Our probe - the wifi is recommended for use. MikroTik RB/951G-2HnD - with our firmware installed so it is not a "free" router

So does this just go between the DSL router and the lan?

Yes, so that the probe can detect traffic, it halts testing if traffic exceeds 100kb/s (slightly more than voice) We also like you to use our Wifi which is both fast and double reach, so is likely to be better than most others at most distances

Does the DSL router need to be the DHCP server? I have a proper server doing that and DNS on the lan, and would not be wanting to use the wifi in it as I have the house covered with unifi AC ones.

Is it a forced requirement to use your wifi if we signed up?

My current router is running Gargoyle and covers my entire house and I have too many devices coming in and out to change them all to a different wireless network.

Yes we very much prefer, otherwise your traffic compete's with ours and that is not fair to the ISP because our results will be worse than reality. Of course we measure potential speed without traffic, not just what is left over :-)

Of course in most cases with Wifi you can use the same SSID and password, then just turn off the Gargoyle and all devices will move over to the probe. We give you control over Network name, password and channel

Ah OK, hmm thought wireless devices looked for bssid/Mac and not Ssid for networks?
Final question, with the probe being between my ADSL modem and router how does it affect port forwards?
