I'm a person who has been with orcon for quite a while and tonight needed to ring Orcon support as got home from work to find no Internet and no phone. Rang the 0800 number and what it's after hours. I don't ring often but in case of no service this is Crap. How long has it been like this. !!??

I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to be open at 11:30pm on a Monday…

Agreed with the other posters here - if you're not going to pay top dollar, don't expect the red carpet to be rolled out. Not many ISPs provider 24/7 call center service, because not many ISPs have a margin that could sustain it. You'll notice that the ones that do tend to have call centers that handle more than broadband and POTS.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Pretty sure orcon used to have 24/7 support line a few years back. Wonder when they closed it?

Maybe when ADSL went from $120 a month for 50GB to $69 for unlimited VDSL/UFB.

Orcon aren't that cheap.

And they recently decided to give away a $500 Xbox for new gigabit connections. That's money that could have been used for contact centre costs.
so presumably they feel it's more important to give away consoles than it is to provide support. (Not just singling out orcon here. Most providers do the same sort of thing)

Well most people in the know wouldn't touch Orcon now unless there was a $500 carrot dangled in front of them.

Their basic internet service isn't that bad but once you have any issues that require helpdesk intervention then...

Have used Orcon a few times now, each time a lesser experience than the time before so now switching to BigPipe on Monday for my ADSL and never going back no matter what goodies they offer.

Malls don't usually open until 10am on a Sunday. The horror!
