I signed up with my republic about 4 months ago. Since day one I've had issues with speed which were finally traced to being a bad pair of wires in the road side cabinet.

Now however I am having daily issue where I will be browsing the internet without any issues and all of a sudden DNS stops resolving, I have tried using my republics provided DNS server, googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and I still keep getting these issues it affects every machine on my network.

When I am having the issue if I change the primary DNS address it resolves the issue until it happens again. While I have the issue I have no issue browsing via IP or running ping and trace routes.

Here is what I have tried.

1. lodged a support ticket which I was told to flush the DNS cache which is what I have done multiple times now.

2. Checked my router to make sure all outbound traffic is allowed (default setup)

3. Tried a second different brand router

It seems like something randomly starts blocking DNS. Any thoughts?

Are you sure its not just the internet connection dropping out?

Leave the router with My Republics default DNS servers and have your devices just get the DHCP details from the router - should pick up the MR DNS from the router.

Is there logging in the router - does it show how long the connection has been up?

Can you tunr on extra logging and see if anything is indicated?

Its not the connection dropping out as I am still able to ping external sites and browse to them using their IP address.

Since switching dns servers temporarily fixes the problem, you might want to consider installing a dns switcher like Quickset DNS. I use this little utility to easily switch between geo-unblocking services on individual computers. It might do the trick as a stopgap workaround.

Thanks I'll look into that as a short term solution, thanks again!

Have you checked that every machine in your network has the same DHCP/DNS settings?

If you get the devices to pick up the settings via the router they should probably just show (assuming windows) as "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

Its worth you having an audit of your devices to make sure there is nothing odd there.

While it seems like its something to do with your other internet issues, IT work has showed me time and time again that coincidences happen a lot and perhaps it never pays to assume anything!

All of my machines have static IP addresses' I've double checked the DNS settings on multiple occasions. I get where you are coming from with double checking things but I have done this thanks.

I broke contract and moved to Bigpipe due to the performance issues (and the fact that support claimed they would look into it and call me back but never did). I decided the early termination fee was worth it.

Unfortunately I forgot to pay the early termination fee, I had other things going on and with the internet performing well after moving it just slipped my mind.

I was extremely unhappy to come home a couple of days ago to find out I had been sent to baycorp with absolutely no attempt to contact me made. Fair enough, I didn't pay the bill (even though I shouldn't really have had too, they weren't holding up their end of the contract) but they never made a single attempt to contact me, I checked my emails going back to the original bill and there is nothing.

Maybe others will disagree and say this is completely my fault, but I reckon this is rubbish, sending someone to baycorp without a single attempt at making contact. A single phonecall or email and I'd have sorted the bill, now I have an extra $150 to pay and a mark against my credit rating. I literally would have taken them 30 seconds to sort out.

@Aborto, you're not the only one. I got the early termination invoice which also stated "Amount will be charged to your Direct Debit or Credit/Debit card on 19 Sep 2016." and thought 'sweet, it's all sorted', then on Tuesday got two nice letters, one from Baycorp and one from MyRepublic stating that they couldn't contact me, but I see no evidence of them trying email or phone me, other than the initial invoice.

Have spoken to Baycorp now and am awaiting a response. Extremely sour with MyRepublic and their poor business practices along with their woeful peak speeds and general international speeds. I do no dispute the $299 early termination charge and I appreciate Baycorp's right to charge a recovery fee, however MyRepublic should have just charged my credit card as they indicated they would on the invoice and as they had for the past six months, or they could have contacted me at any time.

Boy is that ever the truth! I have been confounded by this more times than I can remember. It is like there is some kind of cosmic conspiracy at work. I have had at least three completely unrelated things go down at exactly the same time on more than one occasion. Talk about major confusion. The painful lesson I have learned is never underestimate the probability of completely capricious coincidence.

Is there no way to legally contest this kind of behaviour? It shouldn't be allowed to go unchallenged.

After reading the above comments I have just looked in to check my account and I was billed on the 11th and its showing as being unpaid even though my payment method is credit card which hasn't been charged and has more than enough credit available......

It really seems like they have a few issues to resolve, firstly poor UFB speeds in the evening and now accounts issues.

You might want to advise Baycorp what has happened and tell them to refer the debt back to MR as they have dishonored the process. At the same time make a formal complain to the TDR.
Seems everyone's experiences with MR are following suite of this thread. Am yet to read a positive review and experience.
Maybe steer clear, Proven their network is congested and they have over subscribed. Terrible support.

You do have legal protection about this kind of thing.  Did you ask for a break down of the $150 costs that Baycorp stated, it seems excessive for a $299 debt.  Also, had MR sold the debt to Baycorp, or just as an agent?  You could have gone back to MR, and reminded them they hadn't made contact so you might have to consider legal action against them for trying to damage your credit rating

Don't even offer to pay the contract break fee if you were not getting the service they lead you to believe you were getting.

Tell them it was under dispute and they had no right to refer it to collections. Take as much of their time up as you can on the issue.

Looks like MR are the new orcon for sending things to collections without any due care.

If you want to take things further such as the TDR ensure sure you clearly tell Baycorp that the account is under dispute. This means Baycorp will be limited what they can do at this time.
