I have this strange issue.

I've been with orcon for nearly 2 years.

There are times where a particular website which will not load.

The sites are random. It consists of facebook, google, ebay , paypal, pcworld etc.

When the sites are unreachable , IE, Opera and Chrome would say page cannot be displayed or dns address could not be found.

At first when the problem appears I could still access it thru IE and the problem would go away after half an hour or an hour.

Other times I would restart my modem and it would work fine.

But now it appears even with a reboot IE, Opera and Chrome fails to load the site.

Tonight facebook isn't loading.

Tomorrow it might be google.

The day after might be paypal.

Anyone have a clue what this could be?

Thanks

I had similar DNS issues with Orcon on occasions too. Maybe your router is caching a bad DNS lookup to a certain site until the cached entry expires.

You could try changing your DNS server to Google's to see if you still have the same issue. Googles DNS servers are, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Try turning off "DNS Proxy" on your router IMO

After you do it, you need to disconnect / reconnect your devices to pick up the correct DNS servers from DHCP ;)

I've had the odd DNS issue as well so have now turned DNS Proxy off. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks for this suggestion - we've had the same intermittent issue, so hopefully this fixes it.

I have this issue with Chrome, cant resolve to google, youtube etc

its a nuisance but to resolve I open a command window, type in ipconfig /flushdns and then its ok

I'm surprised this is only being brought up now.

Turning off of the DNS proxy is the workaround for those affected Netcomms and you will need to /flushdns on Windows.

Maybe there aren't as many freebie Netcomms being handed out as I thought.

This has on a couple of occasions made my phones decide there was no internet on the wifi and to disable it and go back to 4G. Really hopeless router for that.

Back to running my own DNS/DHCP and its all good on the wlan here again.

The NF4V DNS issue was fixed probably 18 months ago.

Are Orcon not automatically pushing out firmware still?

Probably is the word, I was still getting DNS issues occasionally right up to leaving Orcon a couple of weeks back.

I unticked the DNS proxy setting and flushed the DNS, but then can't get to google...
Looking at the dns proxy settings, The DNS proxy config just had orcon as hostname and home as the "land" domain name

Needed to restart the NP4V this morning as no Internet or phone.

Internet and phone came back up but I am getting DNS errors with 121.98.01. and 2. They are slow to respond as the page can load at subsequent tries.

I turned DNS proxy off 28 Oct.

Factory reset the router?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

No DNS warnings since so seems to be OK, now. Maybe the DNS servers were factory reset!!
