Hi all,

I've got UFB through 2 degrees but have a major dislike for the Fritz 7390 router. I've got a couple of options lined up for a replacement - either a Sophos UTM appliance or a Cisco 830 router and an additional wireless access point.

The problem I have is the phone. Our cordless analog phone plugs into the back of the fritz and I'm wanting to move this to a Linksys PAP2T box which I have laying around. Has anyone does this before? How hard are the PAP2T boxes to set up? I am aware that 2 degrees will not give out VOIP settings but hoping someone on here might have the info required?

Thanks,

Scott.

I use a Fortigate 100D for firewall duties and Fritzbox 7490 for VOIP via 2Degrees. I just DMZ'd the 7490 on the Fortigate. All the Fritzbox does is phone duties. No port forwarding done etc on the Fortigate. Not that I make international calls using 2Degrees but I also have international calling disabled via the 2Degrees online portal for my VOIP line.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I have a Linksys PAP2T... I gave up trying to get it to work with 2D reliably. I just went with 2talk, far easier. They have an app for android phones as well, so get an old android phone on wifi and you're sorted.

Watchout for sophos, their performance numbers are ... optimistic... especially as you turn more features on.

My Fritzbox acts only as an ATA sitting behind another router. No port forwarding, etc configured. Wireless disabled. Seems to work fine for the VoIP.

Configured as per this screen shot, didn't change anything else: https://i.imgur.com/Ply6K9K.png

Both of those would likely deliver worse WAN to LAN routing performance than the Fritz and are probably best suited to 30/10 UFB only.

Cheers for the replies.

I'll throw the Sophos UTM box in over the weekend and configure the fritz to only do the phones and see how it performs
