Hi guys,

For the past two months or so we have been having problems with our Orcon ADSL2+ connection, including low speeds, frequent disconnections that last 10 minutes and more lengthy disconnections where we have had to call up Orcon to get a technician to check it out. I'm only posting here because I don't think I will survive if I have to call up the call center again and would like to hear some others opinions on the issue.

At the moment our router is syncing 5077kbps down/106kbps up which is about 3 times slower than usual. Our line attenuation hasn't really changed from 21.5dB/13.6dB, however, our noise margin is much higher (AFAIK we are on ULL unless they changed us without telling us) fluctuating around 22.8dB/19.8dB.

We have had a Chorus technician rewire a part of our internal wiring and we only have 1 jackpoint with home phone over VOIP (Orcon Genius).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

To me with your upstream so bad this sounds like an issue on the lower end frequencies, possibly a bad device (phone side related) make sure everthing is removed by the router and test speeds, if all good the plug stuff back in untill you find the problem device, but what I don't get you had a tech onsite and how did he leave did it temporary fix the problem?

By the sounds of it you need the tech back onsite, get him to test the speeds at the ETP (external Termination point) if speeds are slow there its clear the issue is outside your house, if the speeds are good the issue is inside your house.

But sounds like your going to need to call the help desk again :( or maybe if a Orcon Staffer can help here?

Came home last night and the speeds were back to normal but dropped back down this morning, SNR started moving from 20dB to 6dB but speeds still suck.

I think we are going to run a new connection from the termination point on the outside of the house to inside the house just to make sure it's not our internal wiring (electrician, have all the required equipment) as well as reinstall our master filter (we had one but a chorus technician took it out??). If we still have a problem then I guess it's time to call them up again :'(
