Work up early and after seeing I didn't have Internet access through my home WiFi, went to log into the Fritzbox interface and noticed things had changed.

Back when I received the FritzBox I never bothered setting up a admin password and so my default password was <blank>.

This morning I only had the option to put in a password and so left it blank (since that was my password) and got told it was incorrect. Tried a few more times, all to the same result.
For fun, I tried using admin as the password but that did not work either.
I clicked on the forgot password and it told me to factory reset the box ... which I did not want to do because it will kill my only access to the FritzBox.

So does anyone know the default password to the FritzBox 7490 after what I can only assume is a 2Degrees Firmware Update?
(I will call 2D at some point ... just not at 5.45am)

Spoke to 2D Support

My only option if the admin password (which I am told is admin) does not work is to factory reset the device, which I am not at all happy to do.

I asked if 2D pushed out the upgrade to the router and was told they don't - I do not believe this for a second as I know that I did not upgrade the router at all; my years in IT has told me that if something is working, then there is no need to upgrade.

Press factory reset button

login with default creds

setup 2dgrees account

Setup wifi password again

finished.

More time would have been spent in the two forum posts than a reset process (assuming you know your DSL credentials)

Hi there NZKiwiman,

We haven't pushed any new firmware out recently. Default password if the device is configured by us is 'admin', however if the device has been configured by hand, or you (or someone on your network) have updated the password to something different, then this will no longer be valid.

We can reset your device password remotely if your device is managed by us and our management system, and you request this. If you would like us to do this for you, please message us with your broadband account number, address and CWMP number from the bottom of the modem.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB
