Woke up at 4.30am and found that both my mobile and desktop PC that connect to the home WiFi were reporting they were connected by had no internet access.

Checked the FritzBox and rebooted it (just in case) and then rebooted the ONT and the Fritzbox (just in case) but found no luck with either of those actions.

Grabbing my phone I searched for 2D Network Status and found the mobile status report (Gisborne has issues), but could not get the page to refresh when clicking on Broadband. Googled the 2D Twitter and Facebook account but did not find any status reports. Googled the 2D support number and called in just after 5.30am and the guy asked me if I was in Dunedin - informed there was a major issue and no ETA on resolution.

Decided to hook up my desktop computer to my mobile phone for tethering internet access and decided to check the 2D Network Status
Via the desktop I could finally get the Broadband tab to work and .. what a surprise "There are no known issues on the 2degrees Broadband network"

Say what now!!

TL;DR - a) mobile version of the broadband status page doesn't work and b) when there is a known issue, update the status page

Facebook page - empty

Twitter page - responded to a tweet saying they are aware of a Dunedin issue

Vodafone have updated their status page to reflect the outage - they advise it started at 3am

Hey guys,

Unfortunately there is an outage on our wholesaler's network in the Dunedin area that is affecting some of our customers.

Our outage page has been updated, once we have heard from our wholesaler the nature and extent of the issue, which as I'm sure you can understand is hard for both ourselves and our wholesaler to fully assess in the early hours of the morning.

Technicians are working to restore service as quickly as possible, however there is no ETR at present.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB

I got a text message from Dad at 10am advising the phone and internet was working again.

I expect the answer to be no, but I've been advised that Spark just gave out mobile data (up to 20GB) for the inconvenience that this outage caused.
Any good will gestures from 2D in the same vein?

20GB mobile data for an outage that had nothing to do with mobile and that occured in the middle of the night? sounds like a Tui ad

Hi nzkiwiman,

Our services are considered best effort and can be affected by outages from time to time. While we (and our wholesalers) do our best to ensure the networks are running nice and smoothly, outages from time to time can and do occur.

We generally do not provide mobile data or compensation for such events at this time unless there is a particular circumstance to warrant this.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this outage has caused.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB

^ Expected answer, I could not verify the claims by Spark users they got 20GB free, but even 1GB as a good will gesture would have been nice

I was out last night for the Rogue One midnight screening. Getting home at 2.20am, I noticed that the red info light on the Fritzbox was lit up and checking my phone I noticed I was connected to home WiFi but with no Internet access. When I got up for work I was still not connected to the internet, but the red light was gone from the Fritzbox. Rebooted the router to enable internet access again.

Guess there was another outage sometime overnight but fixed before 6am
