Hi all

We've recently moved house and signed up for Orcon Fibre. It's all installed and works great - download speeds circa 60 mbps which is fine for our purposes.

Problem is, we can't access any overseas media (streaming videos or anything of the like). I say overseas because videos on NZ-hosted websites (e.g., the NZ Herald website) load fine.

But as soon as you jump on YouTube and view a less-common video (I assume any video that isn't cached in NZ) the video doesn't even load - totally unusable.

We rang Orcon but all they want to do is troubleshoot the modem (standard isolation tests, factory resets of the modem, speed tests) which naturally don't show any issues. The issue seems to be between the exchange and the overseas servers.

At our wit's end and will probably ditch Orcon if we can't find a fix. Our old ADSL provider at least seemed to be able to provide decent video streaming speed.

Any and all help much appreciated!

Hi There

I see there's no reply here so i'll reply see if we can help if your still experiencing the issue.

Is it just the video content not working? for example YouTube loads but videos don't load? How about general websites do they still work?

Trying to figure out if you have a routing possible routing issue or is it just your flash player having a bit of a hiccup.

If your still have the problem try using WinMTR to do a few trace routes to international sites generally always a good start when dealing with browsing issues.

Cheers,
Nebbie

Hi there,

Our technical support team are still your best bet here - yes they will do basic troubleshooting first but if the problem still exists after this they should be raising a fault ticket. If the problem is on our network then there should be something we can do about it - if it's outside our network, not so much.

PM me with your account details and I'll check how far our tech team got.

Cheers,

Cam

Hi there

Thanks for the replies. bameron - I will PM you.

Nebbie - it's mostly video content. Not just YouTube but pretty much any online video streaming (except NZ-hosted ones).

Overseas websites are quite slow to load (but NZ websites are very fast).

It's not a browser or flash issue because we've tried multiple devices and browsers.

I tried doing a trace route for various websites and all of the results I got had three asterisks (*) at the second hop.

Googling it indicates this is a problem with the ISP, but to be honest I'm out of my depth.

Send bameron a DM and he should be able to help you out here.

When you see a * * * for example that HOP does not respond to IMCP Echo Requests (I believe windows uses IMCP) This could mean a few things:

1.) All traffic is blocked past this point.

2.) IMCP Echo Requests are blocked for this HOP

3.) No Route to the IP address from Orcon.

But as I said do send Bameron a DM hes a good guy and should be able to help you out.
