I am trying to figure out if it's me or something wrong with the connection to Orcon as I seem to be getting really low results all the time day or night or early hours of the morning on a wired connection if you care to take a look at my speedtest page you'll see it's a vet hit n miss afair

With those kinds of speeds you have a lot of factors to take into account

  • Is your system actually able to communicate at 1 Gbit/s speeds both directions?
  • Is the test server you are testing to able to do tests at those speeds?

I would also expect there to be differences in max speed depending on which time of the day it is (how much bandwidth is going through the exchanges and their capacity).

With that said, its really tempting to make a remark about Orcon as an ISP in general, but lets leave it at the temptation ;)

More information is needed. What kind of router do you have? What kind of PC are you using? Ethernet or WiFi?

The PC being used is in my Sig and it's wired and the router is the Fritz Box 7490

And you've turned rate limiting off on the Fritz?

And QoS is turned off? I'd personally attempt a factory reset of the Fritz.
