Hi team,

I was connecting to Telecom thorugh their "free" wifi; but now have to pay a daily rate to use it.

My notebook has found the Orcon wireless hotspot and connected ok. I can't login because I don't have a user account; worse still I can't find out where to register and what it will cost to use the wifi hotspot service.

So Orcon are you out there at all?

Might be best to give them a phone call.
There may be a chance that it is a private connection shared using one of their open access point systems (cant remember what they call them)

TomiZone rings a bell. Could be one of those. I think orcon partnered with them so that their customers could share their connection with other customers when they are traveling to create a national access netowork. Dont know if its auctually started happening yet but saw a report on their partnership a few months ago.

If it's the Orcon Wifi hotspots I'm thinking about, where you connect to a purple username/password page then it isn't a tomizone or other shared connection rather an official Orcon one (I've connected to a few around Auckland). I recall the username and password being your Orcon broadband login details, so I'd imagine one needs to be a broadband customer to access it.

Yes that login colour springs to mind.

Hey I want to buy a connect to a broadband wireless service, but they don't even want to help me :-(

I do believe they were running it as a trial of some sort. I've seen a one in Parnell and another in Remuera. I do believe that it is "based" on Kordia Metro WiFi (which would make sense, their coverage page lists Parnell and Remuera on it where I found the hotspots). This blog post goes into a little bit of detail about that.
