Hi all,
To see if my Fritz!Box 7490 is a factor in my VDSL connection issues, I've managed to acquire a Netcomm NF10W ADSL/VDSL/Fibre modem from someone who's with Trustpower and using his own modem.
(2 Degrees support desk also recommended giving a Broadcomm chipset router a try so we're all very curious to see what this will do. If anything at all.)
Minor problem.... I cannot get the NF10W configured to connect using VDSL at all, so any hints as to what I am doing wrong would be most appreciated.
(I'm pretty sure that the modem itself works and I'm also very sure that the problem lies somewhere between my left and right ears.)
I have a master filter installed and I have a separate Ethernet jackpoint installed where my 7490 connect to using a RJ-45 Ethernet cable.
So, I connect the NF10W with an Ethernet cable to my PC and I connect the WAN port to the VDSL jackpoint using Ethernet as well.
And I think that is where things may go wrong, as the NF10W DSL port requires an RJ-11 cable instead - which I obviously have no need for?
Here's what the NF10W manual says:
INSTALLING THE DEVICE:
1. Connect the supplied RJ11 cable to the “modem” port of your DSL line filter and then connect the other end to the DSL port on the back of the NF10W. Connect the DSL line filter (not included) to the wall socket and then connect your handset to the “phone” port of the filter. If you have a Naked DSL service, simply connect the included RJ11 cable from the DSL port of the NF10W to the wall socket.
Well I can't do that as my VDSL jackpoint is only for Ethernet (RJ-45)?
And sure enough, when I connect to the NF10W and go through the connection wizard to setup VDSL using PPPoE with VLAN Tag 10 and enter my Snap account & Details (legacy customer) .... nothing happens. The DSL light doesn't go on and well it just doesn't connect. Which isn't surprising as it's obviously expecting to connect by RJ-11.
Can't I use the NF10W with an Ethernet jackpoint at all? What is the best course of action here? Should i get some kind of RJ-11 to RJ-45 converter or something to get this NF10W to work?
