Hi all,

New here, anyway ive recently transferred to orcon a couple of months back and since ive been with orcon on VDSL, our ip address is always a USA ip address. Orcon are still in the process of fixing the problem. But i was wondering if anyone else has been through this and what they did to be assigned a NZL ip address. I honestly thought as im in new zealand id be assisned a nz ip address just find it weird that im getting a USA one and thought the only way you could actually be assigned such ip would have been to be in that country..

PS: i dont mind having an USA ip address, but it gets frustrating having to verify every new zealand website i go on as my USA ip address comes up and always requires authentication from the nz websites like google, hotmail, gmail and trademe etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How are you determining it is a USA IP address?

I wonder if it is to do with their IPv6 deployment?

It seems you are not the only one: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=50&topicid=210448

All our IP's are from the APNIC Region. (Asia Pacific)

What IP are you being assigned?

It's not that Orcon gives you a US IP address. IP addresses are used in blocks by ISPs and sometimes blocks move from one company to another. There's a database of blocks and some addresses are listed in one region and takes time for this database to be updated.

Geekzone sees you as US-based but simply because our data is a month old.

IP geolocation is not scientific and should not really be relied upon.

Another possibly is your traffic may be going through the Chrome browser data saver / compression proxy? Similar case here.

Why not make the most of it and signup to the US Netflix etc... No need to use a VPN
