So last night I got an email saying 2D are sorry to see me go... right name, right Helpdesk number no account details requested, unlikely to be a scam.

So I logged into my account using the same email (since they won't accept cell numbers anymore) and it's still in credit, still on a prepay plus account, and still seems active/working?

Any ideas?

What do the headers of the email say?

My first thought was phishing and that there'd be a hyperlink somewhere that takes you to a malicious site. Did the email quote your account number? As jamesrt says, ring them and find out what's going on - quite possible it's a stuff-up at their end and the email should've gone to someone with a name the same as or very similar to yours.

With their prior "upgrade" a stuffup is likely.

But still check that you are getting calls and SMS on that number from other phones. First a friend knew of his number being ported away was a similar email from his telco.

joker97: Not phishing scam?

Good english, "donotreply@2degreesmobile.co.nz", official phone number and no request for details seemed unlikely to be a scam?

No change requests by me at all (just renewed Combo pack a week ago)

will do that at Lunch today (first chance I'll get)...

Just thought (after watching that scammer thread) that this was a really wierd one, but doesn't seem to have any payback or purpose, unless a 'friend' has somehow requested a port/shutdown on my account (or a stuff-up, as mentioned by others) will report back again when I've had a chance to ring.

Ok, so after a 25 min wait on hold I spent about 45 seconds speaking to a Helpdesk person who knew of "many other prepay customers" who have mistakenly received the same email and that it was an error.

What a pity neither their website or phone standby message could have said something about it to save me listening to their choice of standby music for half an hour... and perhaps reduce that wait time for all the other "many" people who might have the same query 🙄

The problem with "common sense" is that it isn't very common...
