Hey everybody,

I just moved house and got my VDSL moved also. I have been having net drop out intense latency and variable download and upload speeds.

I run the support desk and told them the problem and was advised that it would take ten days for the analysis software to analyse the best speed for my connection.

I told the help desk guy I didnt really believe what he was telling me as I have shifted connections before and never been told this.

Anyone experienced this? or have any suggestions.

I have factory reset the router and the dropouts have stopped for no but the speeds are very up and down.

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom

They are telling you the truth, One thing you shouldn't do is restart the router to often as DLM can get the wrong impression. I cut and pasted this for you

Dynamic Line Management (DLM) automatically adjusts your VDSL connection to ensure the best speeds are achieved with the least amount of disruption.

Any time your connection is online, DLM monitors the quality and adjusts itself. After the initial connection, this process may take up to 10 days to find its optimal point, and we will therefore wait for this process to complete before we investigate speed faults.

DLM is automatic

DLM is managed by the network operator, Chorus, & not the ISP

Hope this helps

Cheers Mike

Don't fully agree with the post above, yes DLM does assessments on your line in the first 10 days and makes adjustments but dropouts at this early stage are nothing to do with DLM - it's highly likely the dropouts are from a wiring fault but without your modem stats it's impossible to say for sure.

DLM is not a magic solution to these sorts of issues if your internal wiring is crap its going to be just as crap in 10 days as it is now.

Best to post some modem stats.

To me, this sounds like you may be seeing upstream congestion.

Please indicate further on what exact issues you are seeing, average latency etc is a key detail lacking that would confirm if you are seeing ddDLM doing its thing or something more.

DLM does not cause intense latency and dropouts. It's at it's most aggressive for the first ten days, but is always operating. As @hio77 notes, need a few more details to troubleshoot.

Post your modem VDSL line stats, and perhaps some traceroutes to servers you are seeing high latency.
