Ok Myrepublic customers,

Here's the deals, I am getting sick and tired of Orcon dropping my speeds when I'm on 200/200 fiber unlimited. My max download speed is 142.86mbps now.  I know that when I first changed over i was getting 210 (when ringing about it and complaining, they accuse me of using a TP link router and that I'm doing something to stuff up my speeds, and no listening to me properly if at all, and all this other stuff which I end up getting angry and abusive to them).  So now I want to know the good, the bad the ugly with this company to help me decide for next year when my contract is up.

I don't want people sugar coating bull crap, I want the truth and nothing but the truth.

I guess you've seen this thread ? Might be worth a look if you haven't - https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=165&topicid=214862

As I mentioned there, I've been fine with them, pretty reliable service and generally nothing that a router restart wouldn't fix. Speed has been fine for me but if it streams NF fine that's all I need. Also, as mentioned, wouldn't commit to a 24 month contract with them (or in general come to that). People here seem to go for Bigpipe, who are expanding to several smaller locations if your interested.

Thank you I will take a look at that link now.  Also I have been reading about peak speed drops, have you had this?

What is NF?

Am a bit vague about speed drops to be honest, sometimes I think (well thought, hasn't happened for a while) that some pages did take awhile to load in the evenings. Seems to have been OK for a while (quite a few months) to me though. Think they had quite impressive speed drops in Christchurch, again quite a while ago, maybe a year.

If you look at this - https://truenet.nz/story/2017/05/april-2017-urban-broadband-report for MyRepublic and others, they used to be pretty bad in the evenings but have improved quite a bit. Think Truenet have earlier reports as well.

NF = Netflix.

Like Mr. Murfy said, check out other threads as well.

I reckon the problem might be with your equipment.

Truenet speedtests show orcon is right near the top, with respect to transfer speeds and pings.

My mate (who for some unknown reason doesn't come to me for information on this sort of thing) signed up with Vodafone, got so hacked off he changed to MyRepublic, who then also hacked him off so much he's changed to TrustPower, who he's much happier with (?!). Friends don't let friends go MyRepublic.

If you don't need POTS, go to BigPipe, maybe even using my referral code, which I'll leave here for you since I'm so kind. https://www.bigpipe.co.nz/?referralCode=13ae317e-014b-4f30-a510-048d328c2c34

But yeah, BigPipe's the way to go if you want high quality naked broadband, and not much else, assuming you already have a router or are willing to buy their one.

Nope they admitted to me today finally that they where wrong and that the fault is with them.  Happens every year.  And I have been with them for 5 years.  I expect to get what I pay for or near on what i pay for.

POTS = Plain Old Telephone Service.

Bigpipe is a naked only provider. If you want clothed broadband, Spark isn't terrible, but realistically if you've got a bit of know how or the ability to learn, bigpipe and a 2talk line can't be beat.

If you are willing to sign up for a 2 year contract (And I know many are not) 2 degrees is offering 6mth free on a 100/20 plan and then full price for 18 months.

That works out @$71.25 a month over 2 years - cheap as chips for unlimited data

Perhaps they will do a similar deal on the 200/20 plan?

I was with Orcon for ten+ years and change to Trustpower approx. six months ago.

I can not recommend Trustpower. I regret changing and given the choice again, I would definitely remain with Orcon.

I wouldn't change to trust power as they have ripped off a few people I know.
