Hi all,

Recently moved house and have installed VDSL over the original ADSL that was at the place. The speeds are definitely higher and where they should be based on my experiences with ADSL and Fibre. Approximately 5mb downloads constantly.

The problem occurs where randomly the internet/DSL wants to drop off and then it reconnects itself as if the system is resetting itself.

I had this problem years ago with Slingshot ADSL and I changed from their standard modem to a Draytek Vigor and ASUS RT-N16 combo which fixed it ever doing this same kinda of problem.

I am still running the standard ultra VDSL / ADSL2+ Netcomm Wifi Modem it comes with, is there something not configured properly or are these standard modems being supplied just bad?

If so potentially looking at the Draytek Vigor 130 to solve all the problems

Cheers,

Hi there,

The Netcomm should handle the VDSL connection fine - I'd recommend giving our Technical Support team a ring on 0800 89 2000 so we can investigate what's going on.

Cheers,

Cam

Was a VDSL master filter installed at the time you got VDSL? I don't mean the line filters as well

Can you access the modem admin screen and check the modem re-sync/reset time and date stamp? The reason is if you notice the reset time is around 4am (or round about that) in the morning then it is a deliberate re-sync by ddDLM to fine tune your connection.

ddDLM (Diagnostic Driven Dynamic Line Management) went live in April for ADSL and VDSL line. ddDLM is very active compared to the old DLM. You could see up to 2 - 3 re-sync in a week sometime depend on your line condition.

You just need to rule out it is ddDLM that is doing the reset. Other factors are internal wiring, external wiring and the modem itself which could all cause VDSL to drop out.

Hi Linux,

Sorry not too sure on what the VDSL master filter is - but there was work only required to be performed outside the property from what Slingshot advised.

Nothing was changed inside the house.

The line filters - I believe you mean when you need to hook up both a phone and the internet correct? - Not using this at all as its a direct line from the modem to the jackpoint in the wall.

(i.e we do not use a home phone/landline)

Cheers

If you upgraded ADSL to VDSL without replacing the old ADSL master filter then you do need to do that.

Time to find a new industry!
