Just this moment got this most welcome email:-

GOOD NEWS FROM ORCON   Hi there,

We’ve got some awesome news – you’ve been upgraded to an Unlimited broadband plan, for free!

We’ve been working on a bunch of things behind the scenes here at Orcon, to make our services better and (hopefully) our customers happier.

As part of this, we’ve decided that data caps are a thing of the past and we’ve ditched them, so as of last Friday, 23 June, we moved you to Unlimited data, meaning you now have access to Unlimited broadband at no extra cost – sweet deal!

The best part, besides doing a heap more of your fave things online, like gaming, streaming and hammering YouTube, is that you don’t need to do a thing – everything is set up and good to go, and there is nothing extra to do or pay. Easy.

We hope you enjoy,
The team @ Orcon

(P.S over the coming months you’ll hear more from us about other cool new things we’re working on – we think you’ll like them! We are also ramping up our email support team, so you can just email us any questions. Nice and simple.)

Thanks Orcon.

So I've just had the same email, although  my account login is still showing a 100GB Plan.

Still showing as a 100GB plan this morning. I'll re-check later today.

They most likely changed the back end data cap on the network but the billing profile is the same so you dont pay more.

Usage meter still indicates I'm on a 100GB Cap, and currently likely to overrun based on my usage.

Enjoying Handmaids Tale on Lightbox so Unlimited is going to be handy.

How are orcon these days? Back in the early days of fibre they were looking really bad with heaps of slowdowns.

eg, would an unlimited 1000gbps fibre connection be as good as 2degrees?

Truenet speed results seem to put orcon fibre performing a touch better than 2degrees. (so why am i paying $150 a month for 2degrees 100/50 with home phone?).

Wow that's quite expensive, you could get a gigabit plan nowadays with that sort of money. Shame they don't upgrade you automatically.

Yes, I would be questioning $150/mth.

In my experience, Orcon's speed reflects the Truenet figures. My speedtest never varies from 94/21 at any time of day.

Orcon is not all that good, I am on 200/200 and I get 131.86 Mbps / 220 Mbps, the download speeds is not what im paying for and not near what I'll expect and the upload is better than the download.

I am going to be changing after my contract with Orcon is over.

Presume you have contacted Orcon over this?

Bameron, hopefully, may try to do something.

That seems normal to me, your not always going to get 200/200, i am on gig unlimited and never expect to get 1000, anywhere between 600-900 is fine.

You wont see a change even with switching isp

I have had very few problems with Orcons speeds, occasionally had downtime but that is expected with all isp

Also i do tonnes of gaming and find that the latency is better than my mates who are on other isp plans

I'm going to noob myself past judgement

I have higher expectations for my ISP. When Im on 200, I expect to get 200 speeds all the time, and that's what I got when I were on that plan with Bigpipe.

Gigabit is different, the limitations of the hardware means it's impossible to achieve 1000 but 900 should be what you're aiming for.
