1. The sound quality should be exactly the same as its not dependent on your home broadband connection. Though peoples who have it may be able to shed more light on this. Personally I would take the stuff on talkback shows (big assumption here) with a grain of salt when it comes to IT/Telco stuff.
2. It should be just a case of ringing them up or emailing Orcon.
3. This is where it gets tricky.

Easier to look at in 3 ways:
Standard Telecom Landline:
If you just have a standard landline with Telecom, then there is no minimum term. However, if you have recently switched or joined to Telecom you may have been offered a $60 credit or a free phone - I believe that has a minimum 12 month term. I know when my household switched their line (i have a private line), they took up the $60 credit.

Also if you got offered a phone to move your tolls back or to anytime - there might be a term.
If you have recieved a free phone or credit in the past, may pay to check to see if you are still in a minimum term. If unsure - just call 123

Other providers:
If you are with another provider such as Slingshot, or Vodafone they might have a minimum term on their landline package. Check with that provider if you get billed for landline acces from other provider.

Also if your toll are with other company - check to see if there are any minimum terms or monthly fees that would apply to you.

Broadband
Additionally - if you have broadband on the phoneline -most providers have a minimum term for new connections. By shifting your line to Orcons LLU package, you disconnect those services and could be subject to disconnection fees.

Pays to check with your ISP if you have a minimum term and what the disconnection fee is.

Good questions though, it really helps bringing some of these into the open :)

It shouldn't be any different from a Telecom line. I think the problem is that people buy cheap crappy phones from the Warehouse
and then think it's the line  and not the phone.

Clarification:

1. There should be no difference in sound quality. Would be interested to know which radio station your dad heard that on?

2. Yes. Currently it is a call to the helpdesk (or send us an email), but in the near future this will be able to be carried out from the My Account section of our website.

3. I can't say definitively, but in most cases no. Obviously this is up to them though, so pays to check if you are on any kind of term contract with them.
