How come my friends (on xnet and another on slingshot) can both download the same torrent "Fedora-8-dvd-i386.torrent" at there max download speed but when I try to download i get next to no seeds connected and when one does connect I don't get anything, and in the rare event that one does give something it's in 1-10KB/s but my upload is maxing out, how come?
I do have my ports all forwarded properly (my torrent program even says it is).

Is Orcon capping (or rather blocking all together) our torrents? (Even legal torrents like Ubuntu and Fedora)

The only way I can get the torrent is by leaving my computer and torrent going over night and most of the time it will be finished in the morning (im guessing they unblock it some time at night...?) but i don't really like to leave my computer running at night as I want to sleep and not hear my computer (which can be quite noisy).

Can someone shed some light on this?

I think whatever they do to slow down torrents is really extreme - to supress any conspiracy theories Orcon should turn off those Layer 7 (P2P de-prioritising) switches for a day and get you to re-test. Or how about open-slather/non-throttled weekends? :)

Why use torrents, plenty of http/ftp links that are always faster :)

I wonder if the problem your having could be related to the problem we are having in this thread: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=82&TopicId=21844 ?

It might be, but this has been happening to me on torrents for some weeks now. (it was fine when i signed up to orcon)

As Lurch said I can use HTTP servers to download fodora, which is what I do now, but it still would be nice to be able to use torrents :)
I just remembered that WOW do there updates thou the torrent method, wonder if they would be caped too.... Just a thought.

I've taken to encrypting my traffic and changing the ports.  As soon as I did this my speeds went back up quite significantly.
Hopefully it's all just teething issues and they'll get it sorted soon.

Although as you mentioned, it's been going on for long enough now to be annoying.

Went to do some actual work tonight and couldn't do it.  At least I've got a good excuse tomorrow morning Laughing

Orcon interfere with torrents during peak hours, i find from about 3pm to 12, outside that its fine, can download 400-600k off peak,
