which as it happens is today :) is the 2.6Mbps i got when i first plugged in my Siemens Speedstream 4200. As with every modem I've tried on my line they all start out with a hiss and a roar and after about a fortnight they start syncing slower and slower. So far its been down to 192Kbps :( .. I have rung Orcon multiple times to try and get it sorted and we've done everything from replace line filters to replace the modem. It seems to be that after about a week or so of really good sync speeds everything starts to turn to custard im never able to hold a consistent sync speed its up and down more than a yoyo more down than up though ... here's a list ost of things I've tried
1: replaced line filter (there is only 1 phone jack in the house) x4
2: replaced Dynalynk RTA1320 modem with a new one
3: replaced the Dynalynk with a Dlink 502t
4: tried my friends siemens speedstream 4200 ( got a much better sync 2.8Mbps)
5: bought a speedstream 4200 (all was well for 2 weeks)
6: orcon ordered a change of port worked for all of three days then back to custard :(
from all that has been done above i can only think that somewhere between my phone jack and the exchange is nackard.
I'm approximatly 4.3KMs from my exchange and i get a 47db ~ 50db attenuation with a variety of snrs ranging from 8.5db through to 12.5db ( i assume in this case higher is better ) i have had telecom do line check and they say its fine but i doubt that because even making a phone call the line is noisy i'm just plain outta ideas here folks anything you can think of to try would probably be greatly appreciated
