I'm trying to download firefox and this logitech driver for my PC and it will load the page fine but when i click "Download" it just hangs and doesn't download it.
I tried this on 2 other computers (1 mac and other 2 XP and Vista) all of them wont download it, then i loaded up a USA proxy site and went to the same site clicked download, and it downloads.

Whats happening here? Is orcon now blocking downloads too... :(

or is this all to do with the international speeds thing.

Is anyone else having the same problems?

Update:
Ok the firefox one did after i waited about 10 mins before it started.
but still waiting for the logitech one to start (these both started to download instantly via the proxy)

Windows updates aren't even downloading :(

I have to restart the download several times before it actually starts to download anything international. Sometimes it downloads quickly and other times it's worse than dialup.

WoW has been impossible to play, have been using wowtunnels otherwise it's hit and miss if I can even connect and even with the tunnel my latency is 800-900+ where is I'd get 300-400 or less without a tunnel and with a tunnel half that :) Possibly time to switch ISP's again :)

Yea I know, it's the same with me they all start really slow 0.01KB/s then after 10 mins it will pick up to 50KB/s if im lucky, then it will drop to 0.05 again and repeat. :(

I hope they don't keep this up because if they do I will be moving to slingshot ASAP. (regardless of the contract im on)

It's strange how there is no official orcon people on the forum when there is bad news but when they have good news im sure they will be here to tell us about it.

Alot like there customer service when you ring through they either can't help or there is a 30 minute wait. If you email them for support your either dont hear back from them or it takes a a week to two weeks before they reply.  :(

Hi TechnoGuy001,
Got the exact same issue as you now as well.

So I feel fairly confident in saying that it's not your local cabinet.

I had to download a 3.5MB file on Saturday morning and got no where. I rang Orcon again and the support guy kindly downloaded the file on my behalf and sent it to me.
Again on Sunday afternoon I tried to download a couple of ~40K files and got nowhere. Rang Orcon again and got the guy to email me the two files I needed.
When the Orcon guys downloaded the files for me, they took seconds to download.

Keep in mind I'm actually trying to do work here so I really needed those files. I could have driven to a friends house - but hey, I'm lazy Smile

In the end I had a copy of wget for Windows and thought I might give it a shot. Some other files I needed dowloaded eventually where they would not download through Firefox, IE6 and IE7 (different machines) - ODD. So if you REALLY need something, and you don't mind waiting, you could give that a go.

FYI, wget showed a download speed of around .7KB per second Cry Not bad for DSL Tongue out

Downloads hanging or going very slow, uploads going 4 times faster than downloads, yep it seems to be a widespread problem.

Orcon is having some significant issues with international traffic. It was expected to be fixed over the weekend, but from their system status page it appears to have been pushed back to "this week". Some indication to show that they actually know what is broken would be good.

This is my first post! Smile

Great, I thought this was a problem in just my household. NZ Broadband, gotta love it.. So are we Orcon subscribers at their mercy till they fix it?

I've got to the stage that I'm not even bothering to download anything now. I tried the test listed in another post (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=21939&page_no=3#130591) but aborted that as it was showing 1hr34mins (and increasing) to download Firefox.

The strange thing is that accessing websites around the world don't seem to be any slower. It's only downloads that are affected.

Hi guys,

(I have posted this in other threads, just want to make sure everyone is aware of this)

We did have some issues with international traffic routing last week. These have since been resolved.

If you are still experiencing problems then we would really like your help to figure out what is going wrong, as our network diagnostics are not showing any problems.

Here are the things we need to know if you are having a problem:
  • Is it to an International site only or all sites? (if it’s all sites it’s likely to be a line fault issue)
  • Is it when you are surfing the web or when playing games?
  • If gaming, what game are you playing?
  • What is the ip address of the server you are experiencing slow speeds to?
  • What ports are you running it on?
  • It would also be great if you could run a traceroute to the affected site and send us the results.
If you can send the answers to these questions to support at orcon.net.nz we would be very grateful.

Do you really need our help with what is going on, I thought it was clear to all but a blind man that orcon have not purchased enough bandwidth to service their customers, don't waste peoples time with bs.

You're offering 'help' and yet you created yet *another* thread about a problem that we all know of?

I'm with Basekid on this, show some respect.
