"International speed issues
Some Orcon broadband customers are currently experiencing slower than normal speed when accessing content from international servers. Our engineers are working to resolve this, and expect to have it fixed by the end of this week."
freitasm: How do you know it is not a problem on the server?
duncanblair: Hi guys,
(I have posted this in other threads, just want to make sure everyone is aware of this)
We did have some issues with international traffic routing last week. These have since been resolved.
If you are still experiencing problems then we would really like your help to figure out what is going wrong, as our network diagnostics are not showing any problems.
Here are the things we need to know if you are having a problem:If you can send the answers to these questions to support at orcon.net.nz we would be very grateful.
- Is it to an International site only or all sites? (if it’s all sites it’s likely to be a line fault issue)
- Is it when you are surfing the web or when playing games?
- If gaming, what game are you playing?
- What is the ip address of the server you are experiencing slow speeds to?
- What ports are you running it on?
- It would also be great if you could run a traceroute to the affected site and send us the results.

International websites / WoW (any international gaming)
Surfing and playing games as per above
World of Warcraft - Peak times 7pm to midnight even notice this during the morning 6:30am - 8:30am. In WoW large latency spikes then it'll drop back to green then spikes again. During the peak time it will disconnect constantly from the server. I can however connect using a tunnel which brings down the latency enough to login which goes on to another issue but wont bother with that now.
Any WoW server, actually 99% of international websites. Will find out the IP when I get home.
Good question, standard WoW port, will check. But then it's not just WoW being affected and when it's off peak works fine.
Will run a tracert next time I get the issue.
wjbong: i've been getting awful speed too (www.fileforum.com), less than 0.5 KB/s. Friends are experiencing it as well.
Email'd them in March 2008, and below is all I heard from orcon.
"Thank you for emailing our support team. Your Ticket has been received and a member of our staff will review it and reply accordingly. Please note if you wish to respond to this notification, your email's position in our system will be reset. This will add a delay in us getting back to you."
I didn't wanna add any delay so haven't been sending any emails since. Thought being a big company should take good reponsibilities. I guess your staff members just ignoring your 4 yr customer :/
This is just pissing us off when we r not getting what we pay
Zeroshock plan: i reached over 20gb and orcon seems to follow this up. Forcing me to move to a new plan.
Billing: same stuff, orcon follows this up and i pay.
WOA ORCON SEEMS TO TAKE ACTION EH!
Now i'm getting crappy speed, i follow this up and hope to get it fixed.
: ahhh here we go again. just another dude moaning about his line speed. ignored
