I have just left one isp with major and ongoing bandwidth problems for another it seems. I ran into problems with my new orcon broadband connection straight away, well at least as soon as I tried to use it at peak time, when I found certain internet activity was blocked from been used altogether, this was yesterday, same thing today, downloading of podcasts from websites and using googleearth work as they should up until the evening starts and then they hit a brickwall, it seems obvious to me that orcon are blocking certain traffic in order to partially overcome their underinvestment in bandwidth. What I really can't understand though is why there are not people yelling and screaming about it in a forum such as this, instead there is a misleading silence, I can understand that joe public might be simply fobbed off with some explanation that essentially boils down to it not been orcons responisbility and of course no admission of them not buying enough bandwidth but I would have thought people in here would be onto the truth. I see that the orcon website says there are now no issues, what a joke, what do you call cutting off parts of the internet in order to overcome limited bandwidth on other parts of the internet. Anyhow to say I am annoyed is an understatement, I go from serious bandwidth problems but still having some access to now having no access to the things i want to use the net for, there is no way they should be allowed to charge me at the moment.
When the hell is somebbody going to take isps in general to task, they get away with absolute murder, it's one thing to have the problems they do but then to not disclose them and outright lie to customers is got to be breaking all sorts of laws, the fact is though if they told the truth then customers would want their mmoney bback and they know this, the customers would not stand for what has been going on if theyy only knew. So where the hell is the government in all this, talk about the wild west, at least they had a sheriff. I know for the most part they get away with the lies because of a general public ignorance to anything technical, it doesn't take much knowledge and logic to realise what is happening though, I wish people would stop accepting everything so called experts tell them as been the truth.
As for what to do now, I am at a loss because I know I am going to strike similar issues no matter where I go, that said i won't be staying with orcon when I can't use the internet when I like for what I like, what a bloody hassle this all is though.
I really am starting to wonder how many people can actually see through the isp spin that they give us on these problems.
