I've just been out and about in South Auckland and found "NZ 24" to be live in East Tamaki and Botany Downs

There is also a brand new cell site still under construction by the motorway in Drury with an NZ Comms label on the cabinet. This surprises me, I guess SH1 cover is the aim but in terms of population Drury is no bustling metropolis!

Let's make this thread a list of where we can find this hopefully great new network!

I can also see the "NZ-24" in Manukau. When i select view it says "530-24" wonder what that means? Obviously can't connect!

Nothing in Albany as yet!

530 = New Zealand
24 = Network 24 (NZ Comms)

This is just the mobile network code. The phones firmware usually holds a name for this but because 530-24 is a new network the phone doesnt know the name (I.e. instead of showing you 530-01 it shows you Vodafone NZ)

About to go for a drive, will see where i can get reception

I see 53024 too.. I'm in Mt Eden. And surprisingly only on 3G, no 53024 network in GSM mode at all.

GSM down SH1 on North Shore from Constellation Dr to Esmonde Rd, all through Takapuna, Hauraki Cnr and Belmont
No coverage on Constellation itself tho.. just the motorway

Can't comment on 3G. Used Blackberry Pearl... maybe the GSM is on 850? Motorola V6 couldn't pick it up at home.. will have to explore more

Scrap the 850 idea.

Auckland CBD is pretty well covered from Ponsonby to Grafton to Parnell and all the way down to Viaduct. All of Queens/Symonds/Mayrol. Haven't been down dominion or anything yet

When I was gassing up today they were putting up a temporay lift thing today with antennas on it beside the existing cellsite.

Any idea if it is nz comms getting ready, or just vodafone finally doing something about coverage down here?

edit: should prob say its the cell tower beside challance in birkdale. I thought I did but I guess not ;)

Commented on the EDGE capabilities a few weeks ago.  It didn't actually work, though.  Did you have any luck with your Telstra SIM?

This is one of the methods Telecom are using to add their GSM gear to their towers, are you sure it's not a Telecom site?

No idea if its telecom or not, there are 2 sites right near each other down there, I think one is a woosh one because it has microwave gear on it like the woosh one up by the bus depot, this is the one with no gear on it.

Either way, its a good thing since it will be getting another gsm offering closer to home, means leaving the big V is one step closer ;)
