Hey Geekzone team,

I moved to Orcon and Enable have told me everything has been swapped over, but my 2Deg internet is still fully functional, how does this work?

Can I reconfigure my Fritzbox to use Orcon, or do I need to unplug my fritz and plug in the supplied generic device from Orcon?

Start by ensuring your orcon supplied router works, then change to the router of your choice. What makes you say you're still on the old isp?

Yes you can use a Fritzbox but you won't have a working phone and won't be able to get any support.

Enable has probably provisioned your new connection (orcon) on the second port.

Enable seem to quite regularly provision new connections on the 2nd port rather than a churn.

You should ALWAYS contact your old RSP when you move after your new connection is up and working to confirm your account has been closed.

It seems silly, putting the onus on the customer to have to contact your old provider to confirm disconnection. It's not like power, ADSL connections of old.

But ok, I'll contact them before my billing month is over with 2deg and try the new modem now.

Cheers for your help guys. Not the most straight forward process like just entering in the new credentials clearly!

Edit: Well. swapped the new modem over after nothing worked. Have I missed something!? Orcon advises the modem should be pre-configured and "just work".

Enable: Your request to connect to fibre broadband has now been activated on port eth 2. (Friday@1:12pm)

Why does it seem silly to have to contact them? It's a perfectly normal part of changing providers.

There are a myriad of reasons why providers don't always churn connections, and unless a connection is a churn the old RSP will receive no notification at all that you're leaving them. In your case it's very clear your connection is not a churn (new service stood up on the 2nd port) so 2dgrees will have no idea at all that you're leaving them unless you tell them.

If things aren't working have you the instructions which you've just posted above which say the service will be provisioned on eth2? This is NOT the same port your current 2degrees service will be on (eth1)

It's stupid it's not as easy as unplugging my old model and plugging in my new one. They expect someone to work this out? It shouldn't require a masters degree in networking, it should PnP!

I don't know what ETH2 means, is this the second LAN port on the router connected to the fibre to lan connection? - I should mention I tried that without success.

Obviously the second port on the ONT given the ONT is the device that the LFC configures. PnP and totally logical.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

It is as simple as unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one. Enable even go the extra mile and normally provision new connections on the 2nd port so you can change when you want and not when the connection occurs which means you zero downtime of your internet which is considered critical by some people. Churned connections on Chorus can result in downtime (normally minimal) which is something some people don't like.

As your instructions from Orcon say if you plug your new Orcon router into eth2 on your ONT your service will be up and operational.

Perhaps I have no been clear. Thank you for your suggestions, but that has not worked.

I have tried Orcon modem in No.1 port (where 2deg is now.)

In the No.2 port.

Neither time is there internet, left for over 5 minutes unsuccessfully in each port, power cycling router/ONT.

So before I go to Orcon, is there anything stupid I could be missing?
