In the last 2 days I've have 3 calls from 2Degrees. The first one I missed, the second I answered and straight away I was hung up on. The third calls I answered and was told I am spending a lot of money each month being on Prepay and that 2D have a very special offer for me of $29.95 per month.....

I spend $8 per month on their lowest prepay pack. Come on 2D WTF!

Hi Blake, sorry if the telesales calls were a waste of time for you.

Ideally the customers we call will benefit from the deal offered: $39.95 plan for $29.95. However some, like you, may not.

We attempt to contact customers up to 5 times for these offers until we get through.

Please PM us if you have 2nd thoughts on this deal.

Cheers

Plus the time required to go online and rant about it.

Entirely optional :)

Having said that, I think 2D should qualify this deal so they aren't ringing people who aren't going to benefit. Clearly an analysis of this users plan would have indicated low likelyhood of conversion.

I got a call from a 2D guy the other day saying he looked after our area, and had a special deal only being offered to this area. When pressed he wouldn't tell me what the deal was, just wanted to look at my phone bill.

I told him, if it's a special offer, I am happy to hear it, but actually it was just the typical 2D sales BS, there was no special just he eSPECIALLY wanted to sell me SOMETHING.

Can't you opt out. eg If you are on a the do not call register with the marketing association https://www.marketing.org.nz/Services/Do_Not_Call , you shouldn't get calls. Although are they a member?

Maybe 2D should make sure that the cold callers have the full information on the customer they are calling and thus shows the cusomters monthly spend on it. If they are saying that you could save money, but are only spending $8 per month, then that isn't correct.

Some people have an "interesting" definition of "saving money" - some would consider getting a $40 product for $30 to be "saving money". A bit like when I bought a $2.50 item and was told "you can get two for $4". "No thanks". "But it's cheaper!" No it isn't; it's $1.50 more!

Both definitions are correct. If you were intending to buy 2 then you'd be saving money.

We often make use of buying in bulk when items are on special.

Companies whose telemarketers call me with unsolicited offers lose my business.

I don't give them the time of day. I tell them I don't take unsolicited commercial calls and please don't call me again, then hang up straight away. If they call me again, I look at closing my account if I am a customer, and certainly avoid them if I'm not.

They seem to always call around dinner time when I'm eating (especially the ones repeatedly calling me about DVS systems), and are an irritating plague.

Political pollsters are also annoying. But I just give them random and contradictory untrue answers, so at least I have the satisfaction of poisoning their data in response.

Has this been subcontracted out to a third party company to do the cold calling? I had a cold call from someone who said they were from orcon with a special deal, but when I contacted orcon later on , they knew nothing about it, and they said it wasn't even coming from their number.

Its the fact they are not checking their own systems to determine who would benefit before calling them. As well as them calling me and offering me a "better deal" they have since called twice more to offer the same deal!
