Great to see 2degrees finally offering a comprehensive range of voice, text, data roaming packs and plans. Not as simple as $5/day but more flexible and cheaper depending on your needs.

For personal plans https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/mobile/pay-monthly/add-ons

For business plans https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/business/mobile/add-ons

And a groundbreaking step in a promising direction - a couple of business plans you can use in both NZ and AUS

Sh** those packs are starting to look good :)

It has been 1 area they have been very weak in, nice to see they are moving in the right direction.

Good to see! They also have released some pre-pay packs (see roaming packs): https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/mobile/prepay/

Ah, those ones aren't new, but the combo roaming packs and the 2 business plans allowing you to use the plan in Australia are.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Ah, back to the good old days?

10 years ago when I regularly commuted to OZ you could roam and pay only causal N.Z. rates (20c per text etc). The roaming for Aussie got more expensive (for light useage) when they bought in the new roaming plans.

Right - my bad. Must have missed when they were announced :-)

Do you happen to know what the old casual rates to roam in Australia were?

The issue was they could not charge the 80 cent surcharge as the billing platform did allow it

For prepay in Australia they haven't changed. But for prepay in the other countries covered by the new packs they've gone down to 50c/MB. In one case, that's down from $10/MB! O_o

Going overseas next year for two weeks with plans to travel to the UK (3 days), France (en-route), Belgium (1 day), Netherlands (3 days), Germany (3 days), Czech Republic (3 days) and Qatar (en-route).

Here's the rundown of each network's on account roaming deals (assuming ~100MB a day):

Vodafone
UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic - $5 a day
Qatar - $15/40MB, $30/100MB, $50/200MB

Estimated cost = 2x$30 + 12x$5 = $120

2degrees
UK - $20/225MB/3days, $30/500MB/7days, $55/1GB/14days
France, Czech Republic - $30/500MB/3days, $55/1GB/7days or $0.10/MB
Qatar, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, - $10.00/MB

Estimated cost = 8x$10x100MB + 2x$30 + $0.10x100MB = $7,000 + $60 + $10 = $8,070

Spark
UK, France, Germany - $15/500MB/7days
Belgium, Netherlands - $3/MB
Czech Republic, Qatar - $5/MB

Estimated cost = 2x$15 + 4x$3*100MB + 4*$5*100MB = $30 + $1,200 + $2,000 = $3,230

Just a back-of-the-evenlope calculations based on my actual plans next year. The expense is eye-watering even with the new changes and still compares poorly to the competition. Definitely going to stick with my EE UK SIM for this trip!
