Is anyone else using IPv6 able to try out gfycat.com and see if it's incredibly slow for them as well?  I'm only able to get transfer speeds of at most 200KB/s while using IPv6 but over IPv4 I'm getting very fast speeds (like 7MB/s +).  I'm fairly certain it's not my setup as other IPv6 sites such as YouTube are working just fine - I can stream an 8k video and it's reaching transfer speeds exceeding 10MB/s.  Before I get too serious about troubleshooting it I just wanted to see if it's just me or the same for others as well.

Oh damn, it was the ipv6? Yeah, I've found it to be super slow for a while too. And turning off ipv6 fixes it.

I think that's the same thing with 4chan, from which I've found image loading to be very slow from.

@2degreescare hello! Can you check this out? Also please look at 4chan.org and i.4cdn.org

Hi guys,

We aren't aware of any issues at this time.

Can you please message us with traceroutes to these services, both on ipv6 and ipv4, while affected, and we'll check it out. If you could include your broadband customer number, physical address and connection type as well, that'd be appreciated

Thanks

Have you had a chance to take a look at the details I sent in the PM?

I just tried that website, Gfycat is very slow for me too. Speed was around 2.5 Megabit download.

@2degreescare

Hello! Have you heard back from the network team on this? Thanks.

For now I've (reluctantly) turned IPv6 off on my router while waiting for some more information.

Hey guys,

We haven’t heard anything back yet so I’ve sent this to our team again to investigate. We’ll post here once we know more. @ripdog can you PM us your customer number, address, the modem you’re using, and traceroutes for both sites on IPv4 and IPv6 and as  well as what speeds you’re getting if possible. We’ll pass these on to our team which may help to narrow down the issue.

Cheers,

^BRM

I've already sent all that information. (Message ID 402027).

I'll send it again if that helps.

@Obraik I'm using the FritzBox 7490 which 2degrees sent me.

So has this changed for anyone else? Because I still have this problem. I've basically given up on viewing gfycat links.

Do these problems *actually* get looked at by the network team, or do they just disappear into an overflowing inbox, never to be seen again?

@2degreescare, poke

Sorry for the lack of follow up - rookie mistake, I didn't submit on the post!

Our Network Engineers looked into this at the start of December - they've been unable to find anything on our network that would be causing the slowdown.

Both IPv4 and v6 route are pointing to the same handover and latency looks good too on both paths, so it's likely there's something going on further up the chain causing issues which we can't control.

At this stage the best recommendation would be to contact the admins of gfycat and other affected sites - they can run traces from their own systems and may be able to pinpoint where the slowdown is occurring along the path.

Cheers, ^BRM

@2degreescare would your network engineers be willing to take a look at my EdgeRouter configuration to see if there's any IPv6 settings that need to be changed? As I mentioned it was working fine until suddenly it wasn't without any changes on my end so maybe 2degrees made changes to what is needed for IPv6 to work correctly?

I have had IPv6 disabled the last month or so to get around the issue and turned it back on yesterday to see of things were better but still the same issues are present.
