Hi,
I was originally a SNAP! fibre customer, which was brought out by 2Degrees. I am on a 100mbps/20mbps fibre plan and never had any issues until recently. Each time I ran a speed test, I would get 98 to 102 mbps download speed and a ping of around 4 ms.
About 6 weeks ago, my FritzBox died. I contacted 2Degrees and they replaced it under waranty - apparently these routers come with a 5 year warranty. Anyway, the new one arrived and I plugged it in and my internet was back up and running. Great.
But I started to notice my connection just wasn't quite a good as it used to be. I ran a speed test and this is typical of the results I now see:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6933580275
I get no where near my 100 mbps download speed and the upload is dreadful - it never even makes 1 mbps. In the test results provided, I'm getting a 4 ms ping response however it's not uncommon to get these in double digits - something that never occured before. And my phone is not working.
I went through 2Degrees support and worked with the guy on the helpdesk - we factory reset the router and bascially his position was, this is normal. That I'm not going to get 100 mbps all the time on a test and the fact that I was getting 80 mbps in the tests yesterday he felt was acceptable. Fine. But when I queried the extremely poor upload speeds he didn't really have an answer. On pushing more, a Chorus fault ticket was raised.
I actually called back the 2Degrees Helpdesk as I forgot to address the phone line issue. I was told that due to the poor upload speeds I was getting, the phone will never work and hopefully once Chorus has done their bit and the upload speed issue is resolved, the phone will come back online.
Just received a text from 2Degrees which basically states:
- Chorus has performed checks at their end.
- Core network appears to be all ok.
- Optical levels are also look good.
- Request that if I suspect the issue is still there to provide TRACERTs and PATHPINGs (but doesn't state to where) to them for further review.
I have checked the phone line and issues persist.
Is there a more accurate way of providing a speed test than www.speedtest.net ?
