Anybody have any thoughts on Orcons mobile coverage?

i understand they use the Spark network - I was told that while this is the case, it may be “throttled” access which may not provide as good coverage as an actual Spark customer may find.

Their plans are certainly better than Sparks - if the coverage is the same it’s probably a no brainer.

Any body that comes out with that information should not be allowed to offer advice on mobile networks / coverage

Hi, Can someone please clarify what network provider Orcon is actually piggy backing onto, Vodafone or Spark?

According to when they originally launched it was Vodafone (https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=82&topicid=64543), and on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_in_New_Zealand) they are listed as virtual network operators under Vodafone.

However when I spoke to an operator today they told me Orcon used the Spark network .

Reason for asking is I only get good cell coverage on Vodafone network at my rural place, whereas Spake & 2degrees is only good for TXTing.

They are an MVNO of Spark.

Thinking of switching from Spark to these plans.

Anyone using these plans?

Do they still use the Spark network?

What are the limits and expiry's on the carry over data, is it just data or voice/call minutes also?

Network wise, yes we still use Skinny's (which is Spark).

In terms of roll over, the data does for up to 12 months and unfortunately calling does not.

As noted, orcon is simply a mvno, just like skinny and many others :)

No network difference.

Bit the bullet and signed up for Orcon mobile for myself and partner, I'm currently on Skinny $16 plan but will make use of Orcons offer for $15 same allowances, but Voicemail calling is for free which I do like and how it should be. My partner is moving from Spark $19 to Orcons $20 plan which was nice to find out we get for free due to having power with Orcon as well, she will just pay for the Spotify separately for $15 a month, so essentially saving $21.50 a month and getting 0.5GB more data as opposed to Spark.
