Hi am on 2 degrees and have noticed with a few people that my charity name comes up on peoples caller id's even if I am not a stored contact on their phone.

My number is on my charity website and facebook pages, how is someone I am calling getting this information if I am not in their contact list?

I'm very confused.  One person even has me as a saved contact, and it still comes up on caller id as my charity too?

Yes my phone is using android.  I have just uninstalled Sync.Me app, as I used that to sync fb profile pictures to contacts, so I am wondering if that app is doing something.  But one friend, has no apps, that he is aware of on his phone.  And he is on VF and I am on 2D.

iOS and Android is trying to get smarter at finding contextual information on your device for things like incoming calls with no stored contact.  E.G. on iPhone, if someone calls me that's not a contact, but I do have an email from them with a signature, it will say something like "Incoming Call, Maybe Joe Bloggs"

Probably something like this is happening.

I'm not sure of his phone, we only know each other's numbers.  So when I called him first time, it popped up with my chairties name LOL and he was confused.  And now I am confused lol

My Samsung account is in my own name, not my charities, so yeah very weird.

Nice feature. I use truecaller which also lets me put a name on things and that will go to other people too. Had the option of sending my contacts but I dont really use contacts or phone much so skipped that part of it.

Doesnt truecaller harvest all your contact details and share with the rest of the world (or other truecaller users)?

Sounds good in practice - but if someone you know uses it, your details will be shared whether you want them shared or not.

Can you be sure your details dont get onsold to mobile spammers?

Your phone company may have configured your (out going) caller ID this way. Caller ID can carry letters in addition to numbers. Link

My girlfriends name comes up on the caller ID of my land line, even though my phone is a dumb phone with no internet connectivity and has no corresponding entry in the phone book. I have also seen this in large organisations where analogue 2 wire desk phones display the name of the department that is calling.

I want to put my phone number on whatever database has this information. So that when property managers get me to contact tenants to arrange plumbing repairs, they will be more likely to answer. Instead of ignoring me as they are worried that I might be a debt collector.
