I was visiting my friends who live in Ahuroa last night and was staying the night there and around 10:30-10:45 I noticed that my Youtube video I was playing fullscreen on my phone was no longer buffering the rest of the video.

Loaded the Fritzbox admin page up on my laptop and found ADSL was connected but there was no IPv4 address, so did the full troubleshooting that I could and still nothing.

Tried to use cellphone to get on the outage list for ISP and found that my Vodafone cell had no network detected, yes my friends live rural but I normally get between 2-3 bars of H+ internet there, absolutely nothing, even restarted phone and put SIM in to my backup phone.

My dual sim Windows phone that uses Spark and 2Degrees also reported no networks were available.

One of my friends came and asked what was wrong with the internet as she could not load anything on her phone either wifi or 3G connection.

Has anyone else experienced this where everything possible dies and does not exist? Talk about going back to the dark ages, thankfully no issues with power.

What ISP is this? Topic should be moved to appropriate sub-forum.

I was not sure if it would go to the ISP subforum as it was also all cellphone networks too.

Started working around 5am this morning, but was just weird.

ISP is 2Degrees.

Maybe a power outage somewhere knocking off local cell tower and other providers.

Either that or the feed in to the cell tower and the cabinet was down. It is possible they are both using the same piece of fibre for their uplink somewhere along the chain.

No Cabinet for that area, lovely little Conklin :-(

But yeah must have been a fibre somewhere, was just really weird as I have never had that before.

I've had that before (or at least come across similar things a few times when friends have asked for help troubleshooting "internet issues")  Seems plenty of infrastructure is shared across the country\ISPs\mobile phone providers and redundancy isn't always designed into these systems?
