breaking news - straight from the lips of a 'im not drunk' nz communications executive in a ponsonby bar during the wee small hours of this morning.

looks like we wont be hearing anything from these guys for a while.

and when we do it will be them announcing there departure rather than a launch party.

- they've burnt all there money. apparently at a rate of over 5 million a month!!!
- they havent built many cellsites
- some staff havent been paid for months
- some contractors havent been paid for the few sites theyve actually built

above is just highlights. he ranted about god knows how many other problems.

whole thing sounds like a pigsty.

i'd say the writing is on the wall!!!

did they actually have any money to begin with?! obviously not enough/

no doubt they'll blame it on that evil axis of telecom and vodafone.

maybe theyll wait until national get in so they can blame it on no more government handouts.

sounds like another tauranga telstra or if they're lucky they might do a woosh.

its a shame really. i wanted a new phone and lower prices. guess i should join all the other kiwis and move to australia.

I doubt that since "TF" has the contract and over the last few days being on course hearing they are using telcom/vodaphone cellsites
and everything is going good  should be up and running in November

Sounds like a load of rubbish to me. I reckon they will get up and going and a big thumbs up to them if they do.

Drunk guy claiming to be NZC exec talking to some guy who posts on GZ with no name and no reputation and no prior posts...

I will take this one with the biggest grain of salt I can find.

Wouldn't suprise me if the did pull out.  Econet their original partner basicall spent all the money with nothing to show.  Maybe the same folks run NZ Comm..

Ok, since the rumor mill has started, I may as well add to it :)
I have notice the flurry of activity as slowed lately. I.E. there have been a few of their new cells gone up, but the switching them on stage seems to have slowed.
Now obviously, that can be for a number of reasons, e.g. delays in getting back-haul or power to some sites etc, so this is just merely an observation, not speculation.

new site on the motorway to the airport in auckland was being lifted into place by a crane about 2 weeks ago... not the sort of actions you would expect if they were going to pull out... given the recent press vodafone have been getting i think NZ is ready for some change...... bring on the 3rd network!!!

Good to see still some activity. Maybe it's just taking a while to get some of these hooked in. I saw one go up in Swanson a while ago, and within days it was live. But then I see a few others around for weeks or more but not live yet.

Just arrived back into the country a few days ago, after being in the states for a couple of months, to find the Christchurch datacenter buildout for NZ Comms a hive of activity. It's housed in the same building as our office, and they've been 5 or so Telecom vans in the carpark for the last week installing fibre and equipment, Kordia's lurking and other fibre providers installing their services. Power providers updgrading the power feeds to the building etc.

Seems all go here.

I see the have changed their ID from NZ 24 to NZ COMMS.

Good times are coming when you have the choice of 3 providers from a single device!
